ALLENDALE, Mich. – The No. 23 Grand Valley State Lakers host the Lewis Flyers Thursday (April 18) at 7:00 p.m. at the GVSU Lacrosse Stadium. The Lakers are looking to improve upon a four-game winning streak as they host the first-year program in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
Grand Valley State is 10-3 overall and 7-1 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action, sitting one game behind Indianapolis for the conference lead with three to play. The Lakers average 16 goals per game and are led by
Carly Shisler's 43 goals and 68 draw controls. She scored a game-high five in the 21-3 win last Friday over Northern Michigan.
The first-year Flyers have struggled to find their rhythm with a 1-8 overall record and 1-7 conference mark. A team that is built of just one junior with the rest all either freshmen or sophomores, the Flyers are taking their lumps in the first year of lacrosse to build an experienced roster down the road. Alyson Jines has scored a team-high 16 goals while Lindsey Traub has contributed 11 of her own.
GVSU looks to keep building upon their recent string of impressive wins as the post-season approaches. The ability to get big leads, involve the entire roster, and continue to work on fundamentals has been big for their improvement under first-year head coach
Mackenzie Lawler. Now they look to fine tune their gameplan as the GLIAC Tournament nears.
