INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – The Grand Valley State women's lacrosse team had their season come to a close Thursday afternoon, falling to Ashland 12-9 in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. The Lakers end their season with a 12-8 record.
GVSU opened up the game by going up 3-2 after the first 15 minutes. They added an early second quarter goal to double up the Eagles. Ashland responded with a 6-1 run to lead 8-5 at the break. The Lakers outscored Ashland 4-0 in the third quarter to take a 9-8 advantage going into the fourth. In the final frame, the Eagles scored four times to retake the lead, one they would never relinquish.
Kendra Swope and
Gracie Bancroft each scored twice to lead the offense, with five others scoring once. Swope,
Eliana LaMange, and
Isabella De La Cerda each had one assist. In the draw circle, De La Cerda grabbed four, while
Ella Boose and
Quinn McElroy each getting three.
On the defensive end, McElroy, LaMange, Boose, and
Tatumn Nyen all picked up two groundballs. Seven Lakers caused one turnover apiece.
Sarah Krause and
Maggie O'Neill combined to make six saves.
