The Grand Valley State's women's tennis team improved to 15-3 on the year after they captured two wins as they defeated North Carolina Wesleyan, 5-2, before an impressive 7-0 win against Minnesota State Moorhead on Monday (March. 4). GVSU's next matches will be on Tuesday (March 5) against Keiser at Red Bug Park, with first serve starting at 12 noon, before a match against Concordia (Minn.) at the USTA campus staring at 8 p.m.

Grand Valley State vs. North Carolina Wesleyan
GVSU improved to 14-3 on the year after they defeated North Carolina Wesleyan by a final score of 5-2. With the loss, N.C. Wesleyan is now 2-2 on the year. Â
In doubles, North Carolina Wesleyan captured the first point of the match with wins from No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
Marily Canellopoulos and
Vera Griva fought hard from the No. 2 spot but were defeated 6-3, while
Nicole Heiniger and
Livia Christman fell 6-2 from No. 3 doubles. The Lakers did win from the No. 1 pairing after
Madison Ballard and
Marija Leko won 6-1.

In singles, GVSU turned things around and won five out of six matches. N.C. Wesleyan only point in singles would come from the No. 1 singles position as Griva was defeated in three sets by a score of 4-6, 6-2, 7-10. Playing from the No. 2 position was Ballard, who won 6-3, 6-0, while Leko also had a strong performance from the No. 3 slot and went on to win 7-6 (4-0), 6-1. Christman and Heiniger both played well from the No. 4 and No. 5 positions, as Christman won 6-1, 6-3, while Heiniger racked up a 6-2, 6-3 win.
Liv Hanover added one more point to the Lakers final score as she won 6-0, 6-2, from No. 6 singles.

The Lakers continued their strong play under the lights on the USTA campus and defeated Minnesota State Moorhead, 7-0, as the Lakers improved to 15-3 on the season while the Dragons now hold a 9-2 record.

The Lakers started the match off with a sweep in doubles as Ballard and Leko won 6-4 from the No. 1 pairing, while Griva and Canellopoulos also won from the No. 2 doubles position by a score of 6-2. GVSU completed the sweep after Christman and Heiniger won 6-0 from No. 3 doubles.

Grand Valley State kept the pressure on during singles, as they would take all six matches. Ballard, who played from the No. 1 slot won 6-3, 6-4, while Canellopoulos tallied a 7-6(6), 6-4 win from No. 2 singles. Christman captured a 6-2, 6-4, win from the No. 3 spot, as Heiniger won 6-3, 6-1, from No. 4 singles. Grand Valley State scored two more on the evening after Hanover won 6-4, 6-2, from the No. 5 singles position and
Katarina Samardzija also won from the No. 6 slot by a score of 6-3, 7-5.
