SURPRISE, Ariz. – The No. 2 Grand Valley State women's tennis team advanced to the Elite Eight at the NCAA National Championships after sweeping No. 15 Indiana (Pa.) 4-0 in the Sweet 16 Tuesday. The Lakers improve to 19-1 on the season.
GVSU claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.
Natasha Sengphrachanh and
Vale Mozas clinched the doubles point for the Lakers with a 6-4 win at the top doubles position.
Amanda Diaz and
Rachel Sam posted a dominant 6-1 win at No. 3 singles.
In singles action,
Lauren Burkett put GVSU ahead 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-1 straight set win from the no. 5 singles position.
Amanda Diaz made it 3-0 with a 6-1, 6-4 straight set win from the No. 6 singles position.
Natasha Sengphrachanh clinched the win for the Lakers with a 6-3, 6-1 straight set win at the top singles position.
GVSU will face No. 10 UT Tyler in the Elite Eight Wednesday afternoon in Surprise, Arizona. First serve is set for 4:00 PM PT, 7:00 PM ET at Surprise Tennis & Racquet Club.
