The #23-ranked Grand Valley State women's tennis team improved to 16-2 on the season after they captured two, 8-1 victories, over Findlay and Minnesota State-Mankato on Thursday, March 9.
 
GVSU first played Findlay on Thursday afternoon, and started off hot with a sweep in doubles play with two, 8-0, victories. 
Madison Ballard and 
Nicole Heiniger won the No. 2 spot, while 
Abby Perkins and 
Livia Christman tallied a point from No. 3 doubles. The duo of 
Aimee Moccia and 
Alexa Sweeney concluded the sweep as they won 8-5 from the No. 1 pairing.
 
The Lakers continued their dominance as 
Katarina Samardzija won 6-0, 3-0 from the No. 6 position, while 
Rachel Sumner tallied a 6-1, 6-1 win from the No. 5 slot. Christman battled from the No. 3 singles position and picked the victory with a 7-5, 6-2 win. The Lakers added two more points to their total from Sweeney and Perkins as they captured wins from No. 2 and No. 3 singles. Findlay added its lone point after Ballard fell in a tough 6-1, 7-6(4) decision.
 
Grand Valley State continued to play strong on Thursday evening, as they defeated MSU, 8-1. Similar to the first match of the day, the Lakers swept doubles to start off the match. Sumner and 
Samantha Schrepferman won 8-0 from No. 3 doubles, as Perkins and Christman also picked up another win in doubles on the day with an 8-1 win from No. 2 doubles. The duo Moccia and Sweeney, also picked up another point as they won 8-3 from the No. 1 pairing.
 
In single actions, the Lakers were just as dominate as they took five of six matches from the Mavericks. Playing from the No. 1 singles position, Moccia claimed a 6-0, 6-2 win for the Lakers. 
Olivia Hanover battled from the No. 2 slot, but fell in three sets 4-6, 6-1, (8-10), while Heiniger won in straight sets (6-0, 6-0). GVSU added three more points as Schrepferman (6-1, 6-2), Samardzija (6-0, 6-2) and Sumner (6-1, 6-1) also won from the No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles positions.
 
GVSU will be back tomorrow, as they will face Southern Indiana for an 12 p.m. match.
