SPARKS, Md. – The No. 22 Grand Valley State Lakers look to build off their impressive season-opening win in a top-25 showdown with the No. 4 Le Moyne Dolphins Tuesday afternoon as their spring trip continues at the US Lacrosse Complex in Maryland. The Lakers dominated Kutztown, 16-6, Saturday to start the season 1-0 while the Dolphins downed No. 15 Mercyhurst, 16-6, to win their only game of the season so far. The Lakers remained No. 22 in the latest Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll released Monday.
This will be the fourth matchup in program history between the Lakers and Dolphins, with GVSU looking for its first win against the school out of Syracuse, New York. Last season the Lakers fell, 18-5, to the Dolphins at the US Lacrosse Complex. The Dolphins went 19-2 a year ago, losing in the second round of the NCAA Tournament to No. 1 Adelphi.

Erika Neumen highlighted the Lakers season-opening win. Neumen, who missed all of last season to injury, erupted for six goals in her first game back Saturday. She was one of eight different Lakers to score as GVSU dominated possession, and the shot count (40-25) in the win over the Golden Bears. GVSU scored within the first :30 seconds of the game for the wire-to-wire road win.
Hot starts were a theme on Saturday, with the Lakers coming out of halftime with a four-goal barrage in the first 90 seconds of the second half. Neumen, who had two goals in the first half, doubled her goal total during that early stretch to put the Lakers in cruise control for much of the second period.
Brianna DeMilia made five first-half saves while
Abigail Dengler made seven stops in the second period.
Le Moyne got four goals from Nicole Delaney in their season opener, one of five Dolphins to score in the contest. Sidney Hall had three goals and a pair of assists to lead the team with five points. The Dolphins and Lakers were tied at 2-2 after 15 minutes before Le Moyne pulled away with five unanswered goals over the ensuing ten minutes.
Grand Valley State has an opportunity for a statement win early in the 2018 season and, after a dominating win Saturday, there is plenty of reason to be confident headed into the showcase matchup at the US Lacrosse Complex.
