ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Grand Valley State women's lacrosse team ventures to uncharted territory as they resume Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play this weekend. Friday night they take on the Northern Michigan Wildcats in Marquette, Michigan at 7:00 PM before heading to Minnesota for their first-ever matchup with Concordia St. Paul on Sunday (March 25) at 1:00 PM EST (12:00 locally in Minnesota). The Lakers are winners of two straight and enter action 3-2 on the year and 1-0 in the GLIAC. The Wildcats are 1-3 on the season and 0-1 in league play while the Golden Bears are 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the league.
Â
Each of the last two weeks have seen Lakers earn GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Erika Neumen is the reigning recipient after eight goals across two games last week. The Lakers had five different players record hat-tricks in the 22-11 win over Wheeling Jesuit on Sunday. That came on the heels of a 20-10 win over Tiffin in the GLIAC opener last Friday, sparked by a 10-1 run across the middle 20 minutes of the game.
Â
Northern Michigan, who fell to Concordia-St. Paul in their GLIAC opener last Saturday, is led by Emily Dvorak's 17 goals and five assists this season. Graison Ringlever has been the other offensive weapon with 13 goals on the year while also securing a team-high 18 draw controls. Â This is the second meeting ever between the two schools, with GVSU taking the inaugural meeting last season at home.
Â
Concordia-St. Paul got an exhibition victory over Division I Minnesota to start the year but fell to No. 3 Lindenwood in the regular season opener. Since then, the Golden Bears have rattled off four straight wins, all on the road, and return home to host Tiffin on Friday before facing the Lakers this Sunday. A second-year program, Concordia has shown a balanced attack in the early goings this season. 13 different players have scored, with six scoring six goals or more. Raelyn Korinek and Maddie Hentges each lead the way with 12 goals apiece.
Â
The Lakers look to stay unbeaten in GLIAC play and take their domination in league play to new venues and unfamiliar territory, but new opponents and long travel will test GVSU. Both games will have live stats and video available along with in-game and post-game coverage on GVSULakers.com.
