The Grand Valley State women's tennis team is on the road this weekend for its final two Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matches this fall, as they battle Saginaw Valley State at 3 p.m. on Saturday (Oct. 20), followed by a Sunday (Oct. 21) match against Northwood with first serve starting at 12 p.m. Both matches will be played at the Greater Midland Tennis Center in Midland, Michigan.

So far this season, Grand Valley State is 6-1 overall and is also 6-1 in the GLIAC. Last weekend the Lakers split their two home matches after they won 7-0 against Ashland, before falling to Wayne State, 4-3. Against GLIAC competition this fall, the Lakers are 33-9 in singles matches and hold a 15-6 doubles record, and are second only to Northwood in the conference standings. GVSU does have a chance for a share of the GLIAC Regular Season title if they win both matches this weekend.Â

GVSU's first road match this weekend is on Saturday (Oct. 20) against Saginaw Valley State (4-3 Overall, 4-3 GLIAC) at the Greater Midland Tennis Center in Midland, Michigan. The Cardinals have done fairly well this season against GLIAC competition as they currently sit fifth in the conference standings. Against GLIAC foes, the Cardinals are 19-17 in singles matches and 10-8 in doubles.

On Sunday, Grand Valley State and Northwood will battle it out starting at 12 p.m. NU sits atop of the GLIAC standings, as they are undefeated with a 7-0 overall record (7-0 GLIAC). The Timberwolves have not made it easy for their opponents this season, as they hold a 39-3 singles record and are 20-1 in doubles matches. Â

Following this weekend's matches, Grand Valley State will prep for the 2018 GLIAC Women's Tennis Tournament next weekend (Oct. 26-28) at the Greater Midland Tennis Center in Midland, Michigan.
