Lakers Prepped for GLIAC Tournament Final Showdown Against Findlay

Findlay (May 8): Live Stats | Video

ALLENDALE, Mich. – For the fourth straight year, Grand Valley State finds themselves in the GLIAC Tournament Championship game. And in the 2016 edition of the GLIAC Women's Lacrosse Tournament, the top-seeded Lakers will be squaring off at noon against No. 3 seed Findlay at GVSU Lacrosse Stadium.

In yesterday's GLIAC Tournament semifinal against No. 4 seed McKendree, Grand Valley State overpowered the Bearcats with a dominating offense as the top-seeded Lakers came away with a 19-8 win to advance to their fourth Tournament championship game. Danielle Tunnell led the team with four goals while Erika Neumen pulled down six draw controls and Brianna DeMilia recorded 14 saves.

The Laker offense, one of the best in the country in goals per game and total goals scored, have a bevy of scoring options to attack the Findlay defense. Neumen, who became the school's all-time leading scorer on Friday, enters Sunday with 67 points on 63 goals and four assists, while Ryan Skomial (36g, 22a) and Meghan Datema (43g, 8a) are another two dangerous scoring threats, as is Kira Dosenberry (33g, 12a) and Danielle Tunnell (37g, 5a).

The top-scoring defense in the conference is led by GLIAC Defender of the Year and All-GLIAC First Team selection Caitlin Wojichowski. The senior defender has recorded 25 caused turnovers along with 27 ground balls and a pair of goals this season. Dosenberry's 24 and Neumen's 23 rank second and third on a team that has forced 197 turnovers in 2016.

GV's opponent, Findlay (12-7, 7-5 GLIAC), advanced to their first GLIAC Tournament final after defeating No. 2 seed Tiffin 13-10 in the GLIAC Tournament semifinal. The Oilers, who led the game from start to finish, are led by GLIAC Midfielder of the Year Sarah Lankton and All-GLIAC attacker Kyra Bradley. Lankton leads the team with 69 points on 53 goals and 16 assists, while Bradley is right behind her with 67 points on 52 goals and 15 assists. Lankton also leads the team with 66 ground balls, 99 draw control wins and 26 caused turnovers, making her the top priority for a Laker defense that ranks first in the conference and 20th in the country in goals allowed per game. Rachel Heath drew the start for the Oilers in the semifinal game and will most likely get the nod on Sunday after making six saves against the Dragons.

The game's first draw is scheduled for noon. Links to the live statistical and video broadcasts are available at the top of the page as well as on the women's lacrosse schedule page.
