ALLENDALE, MICH. – For the sixth consecutive season, the Grand Valley State women's lacrosse team took home the GLIAC Tournament championship. They defeated Northern Michigan 12-9 to sweep the regular season and tournament titles. The Lakers are now 12-7 on the season.
A low-scoring first quarter saw the Wildcats up 2-1 after 15 minutes of action. Both offenses woke up in the second, combining to score 10 goals. Four tallies in the last five minutes helped NMU build an 8-5 halftime lead.
Grand Valley State shutdown the Wildcats in the second half, outscoring them 7-1. They scored four times in the third quarter to lead by one going into the final period, where two goals in the final 7:25 of action helped seal the victory.
Ella Boose tallied six goals, along with an assist, to lead the Laker offense. She also added three draw controls.
Indira Marker and
Kendra Swope each scored twice, with
Ainsley Shilling and
Eliana LaMange netting a goal apiece.
Delaney Smith distributed two assists, while Marker, LaMange, and
Gracie Bancroft had one assist.
Isabella De La Cerda also grabbed three draw controls.
Sarah Krause saved eight shots in net, picking up two groundballs.
Kylie Waeghe and
Quinn McElroy both picked up four groundballs, and
Karleigh Rothe had three. Rothe and
Tatumn Nyen each caused three turnovers, with McElroy causing two.
