ALLENDALE, Mich. – Moving through the heart of their conference schedule, Grand Valley State continues through GLIAC competition with the first of six consecutive road games. The Lakers will open this road stand with games against Walsh on Friday (Apr. 8) and Lake Erie on Saturday (Apr. 9).

Ranked ninth in Division II in the latest IWLCA coaches' poll and 10th in the latest Nike/Lacrosse Magazine media poll, Grand Valley State comes into these games at the top of the GLIAC with a 6-3 overall record and 4-0 conference mark.

The Lakers hosted two of the top teams in the conference last weekend, welcoming Tiffin and Findlay to GVSU Lacrosse Stadium. The Lakers held on for a 13-10 win over the Dragons while the offense took it to Findlay in a 19-9 win over the Oilers.

Topping the conference and tied for 26th in the country in goals per game (13.00) and ranking fourth in the conference in total goals scored (117), the high-scoring Laker offense is led by a trio of midfielders in
Erika Neumen,
Ryan Skomial, and
Meghan Datema.
Chelsey Bishop has also been an important cog in the Laker offensive machine, as have
Kira Dosenberry and
Danielle Tunnell.

Neumen has scored 30 goals this season, and is coming off a combined 10-goal performance against Tiffin and Findlay this past weekend. Neumen scored her 100th career goal as a Laker against Tiffin on April 1, and currently sits second in school history in points (121) and third in goals (105) in a career. Skomial also has 30 points, tallying 19 goals and 11 assists, and Datema has posted 25 points on 21 goals and four assists. Datema leads the team with 30 draw controls while posting 10 ground balls, while Neumen has put up a statline of 25 draw controls and 21 ground bals, and Skomial has put up nine draw control wins and eight ground balls.

Bishop currently stands sixth for most assists in a season with 19 after tallying 10 against Tiffin and Findlay, and ranks third for most individual assists behind Gina Abulone of Tiffin and Dana Dipasquale of McKendree. Dosenberry is third on the team with 14 goals while contributing three assists for 17 points along with 23 ground balls, 19 caused turnovers and 12 caused turnovers. Coming off the bench, Tunnell has found the back of the net 10 times and dished out a pair of assists for 12 points in all nine games played this season, in addition to recording eiht ground balls, four draw controls and three caused turnovers.

Caitlin Wojichowski leads the top-ranked defense in the conference and 45th-ranked defense in the country in goals allowed per game (10.33) into the weekend set against the Cavaliers and Storm. The senior defender leads the team and is tied for the conference lead with 16 caused turnovers in addition to her 17 ground balls.
Chloe Zdybel,
Kelly Leibovitz and
Adrianna Smith have also been big along the backline for GV. Zdybel has caused six turnovers this season and picked up eight ground balls, while Leibovitz has caused four turnovers and picked up 17 ground balls, and Smith has also caused four turnovers and picked six loose balls up off the turf. Neumen and Dosenberry have also been causing turnovers from the midfield, as the junior pair have caused 12 turnovers each.

The Lakers will be turning to
Sarah Zwilsky to man the cage this weekend. The junior goalkeeper has started in all nine games this season and played in 440 minutes, bringing her 55 saves, 10.50 goals-against average and a 41.7 save percentage into the set of Ohio games. Zwilsky recorded a season-high 11 saves in their win against Tiffin, and then made seven saves against Findlay.

Walsh, Friday's opponent, is currently 3-6 overall and 0-6 against GLIAC opponents this season. Lane Brunkala will lead the Cavalier offense onto the field on Friday, as the sophomore has scored 31 points on 28 goals and three assists, while junior Aly Jajack ranks second on the team in points (26) and goals (21) while leading the team with five assists. Sarah McCormick ranks first among her teammates with 36 draw control wins, while Maria Nobile has collected 30 draw controls to rank second and leads all field players with 11 caused turnovers. Midfielder Sam Paulson leads all field players with 16 ground balls and ranks third on the team in caused turnovers with 10. Mikaela Faus will be the one in net on Friday, as she has played and started in all nine games for the Cavaliers this season and recording a 15.14 goals-against-average and 66 saves. Faus also leads the team with 21 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers.

Lake Erie carries a 4-6 overall record and 2-4 conference record into Saturday. The Storm boasts five double-digit goal scorers, with Anastasia Crawford leading the way with 24 and Anna Spin following close behind with 18. Spin also leads the team with 30 points and 12 assists, and stands third on the team with 15 draw controls, placing her behind Cecilia Spin (24) and Breana Moser (23). Mallory Quiggle paces the team in ground balls with 24, while Moser ranks second with 19 ground balls and leads the team in caused turnovers with 12. Lake Erie will most likely turn to Harmony Moore to try and stifle the Laker offense, as the young goalkeeper has started six games and played 344:29 this season, posting a 12.54 GAA and a 43.3 save percentage. Five-game starter Katie Holden could also get the nod to start against the Lakers, as she has played 242:48 and holds a 9.14 GAA and a 43.9 save percentage.

The start times to both games have been moved up due to predicted inclement weather. Originally scheduled to begin at 6 pm, the game against Walsh on Friday is now scheduled to begin at 4 pm.
