ALLENDALE, Mich. – Grand Valley State is looking to put their recent loss behind them and focus on their final two road GLIAC games of the season against Indianapolis and McKendree.

8-4 overall and 6-1 in the GLIAC, Grand Valley State dropped two spots in the latest IWLCA Division II coaches poll released Monday afternoon. The Lakers received 196 points in this week's coaches poll, slotting them ahead of Dowling and behind Lock Haven. The Lakers also received a No. 6 ranking in the North Region in the inaugural NCAA Division II regional rankings, released Wednesday afternoon.

GVSU kicked off the second half of their conference schedule with a road trip to Ohio to take on Findlay and Tiffin. Behind eight Erika Neumen goals and a 15-save outing from Sarah Zwilsky, the Lakers cruised to a 21-8 win over Findlay on Friday (Apr. 15). Against Tiffin on Saturday (Apr. 16), a combined 12 goals from Meghan Datema, Danielle Tunnell and Ryan Skomial weren't enough as the Dragons squeezed out a 16-15 overtime win over the Lakers.

Entering this weekend's games against Indianapolis (6-8, 4-5 GLIAC) and McKendree (8-6, 6-3 GLIAC), the Lakers possess one of the best offenses and defenses not just in the conference, but in Division II. Nationally, the Laker offense ranks 12th in goals per game (14.50) and 33rd in total goals scored (174), and the Laker defense is tied for 21st in total goals allowed (118) and in sole possession of 35th in goals against average (9.83).

A trio of midfielders and an assist-happy attacker have led the Lakers in 2016. Neumen, Skomial, Datema, and Chelsey Bishop rank one through four for the team lead in points as all four have recorded at least 30 points this season. Neumen has 44 points on 42 goals and two assists, while Skomial has tallied 27 goals and 16 assists for 43 points, Datema has put up 28 goals and four assists for 32 points, and Bishop is right behind with 28 assists and three goals for 31 points.

The four also excel away from the goal, as Neumen and Datema tie for the team lead in draw controls (36). Neumen ranks third on the team in ground balls (23) and in caused turnovers (13). Datema has put up 14 ground balls and three caused turnovers, while Skomial has tallied 19 draw controls, 16 ground balls and eight caused turnovers, and Bishop has added eight ground balls and three draw controls to her stat line.

Kira Dosenberry has been another stellar midfielder this season, as the junior has put up 22 points on 19 goals and three assists. Dosenberry also tops the team in ground balls (27), draw controls (22), and caused turnovers (14). Tunnell has also been a fine addition to the team in her first year after transferring from Cincinnati, playing in all 12 games and posting 18 goals and two assists along with 10 ground balls, five draw control wins and five caused turnovers.

A pair of freshmen in Carlyn Shisler and Kelley Fitzgerald have also been contributing in their first years on the squad. Shisler has appeared in all 12 games while scoring nine goals and three assists for 12 points along with 11 ground balls, 10 draw controls and seven caused turnovers, and Fitzgerald has played in 11 games and scored six goals while putting up four caused turnovers, three ground balls and two draw controls.

Caitlin Wojichowski continues to lead a stout Laker defense as the senior has caused 20 of the team's 119 turnovers, tying her for 44th in the country in caused turnovers per game (1.67). Also lending a hand on the back-line have been Adrianna Smith, Chloe Zdybel, and Kelly Leibovitz. Leibovitz ties with Dosenberry for the team lead in ground balls from the defensive midfield position while adding eight caused turnovers and six draw control wins. Smith has added five caused turnovers to the total while also tallying a team-best 27 ground balls and six draw control wins.

Zwilsky has been rock-solid all season as the top goalie for GV. In 12 starts this season, the junior netminder has put up a 44.3 save percentage while posting a 10.26 goals against average and making 78 saves. Zwilsky made a career-high 15 saves against Findlay on April 15. Brianna DeMilia has also seen some time in the net this season, playing in six games and posting an 8.10 goals against average and a 48.7 save percentage in 148 minutes between the pipes.

The last time these teams met was in the final week of March at GVSU Lacrosse Stadium. GV opened conference play on March 25 with a 23-11 win over McKendree, while just one day later the Lakers easily handled Indianapolis in a 15-4 win.

Indianapolis (6-8, 4-5 GLIAC) comes into Friday's game having won four out of their last six games since losing to the Lakers on March 26. The Lakers allowed only one goal in the first half while cruising to a 15-4 win in their second GLIAC game of the season. The Greyhounds are led by a pair of 37 point-scorers in Chalane Morrison and Anna Rulapaugh. Morrison, who only scored one goal in the team's previous meeting, leads UIndy with 30 goals while Rulapaugh, who managed only a single assist on March 26, leads the team with 16 assists. Sydney Hauffman is also a dangerous scorer, ranking second with 22 goals. Erika Mackenzie is a threat away from the ball, as she leads the team with 38 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers, while Hana Priddy enters Friday with a team-leading and fourth-best in the GLIAC 52 draw controls. Irele Carlquist, named an IWLCA Division II Player of the Week earlier in the season, will man the pipes as the freshman has racked up 123 saves and a 10.50 goals against average while saving 45.6 percent of the shots on goal she's faced.

McKendree (8-6, 6-3 GLIAC) will look to put in a better showing against the Lakers on Sunday than they did on March 25, when the Lakers hung 23 points on them in a 23-11 defeat at GVSU Lacrosse Stadium. The Bearcats host one of the top offenses in the GLIAC, scoring 182 goals through 14 games this season while averaging 13.00 goals per game. The leader of this threatening Bearcat offense is Paige Salthouse. The midfielder does it all for McKendree, leading the team with 63 points a team-leading 50 goals and 13 assists. Dana DiPasquale leads the team and the GLIAC with 43 assists, while Mia Fiore leads the team with 59 draw controls in addition to her 22 goals, and Shirley Boland leads a defense that has caused 122 turnovers with 19. Amy Porta will be the one in net on Sunday, as the goalkeeper has recorded 158 saves while posting a 48.8 save percentage and an 11.87 goals against average.

Opening draw for the Lakers showdown with the Greyhounds on Friday is scheduled for 6 pm, and Sunday's game is scheduled to begin at 1 pm. Links to the live statistical and video broadcasts have been included at the top of the page as well as the women's lacrosse schedule page.
