Findlay (Apr. 15): Live Stats

Tiffin (Apr. 16): Live Stats

ALLENDALE, Mich. – Grand Valley State begins the second half of their GLIAC schedule with two more road games, this time against Findlay on Friday (Apr. 15) and Tiffin on Saturday (Apr. 16).

The Lakers, 7-3 overall and 5-0 in the GLIAC following a 21-1 win over Walsh, received 245 points to rank ninth in the latest Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II coaches poll. The Lakers, who also rank 10th in the Nike/Lacrosse Magazine media poll, finished ahead of #10 New Haven and behind #8 Florida Southern in the week eight coaches poll.

The Lakers traveled to Ohio for two conference games, but only managed to play one. In that one game against Walsh, 12 different Lakers scored at least one goal as the Lakers cruised to a dominating 21-1 win over the Cavaliers. Unfortunately, their game against Lake Erie the next day was postponed after inclement weather dumped over eight inches of snow on the field. The game was moved to GVSU Lacrosse Stadium on April 29 at noon.

The Laker offense topping the conference and ranking 17th in the country in goals per game (13.80), is led by Ryan Skomial, Erika Neumen, and Chelsey Bishop. Skomial leads the team with 35 points on 23 goals and 12 assists, while Neumen holds the team lead in goals with 33, and Bishop paces the team in assists with 24. Neumen has also contributed 27 draw controls, 22 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers this season, while Skomial has put up 11 draw controls, 11 ground balls, and seven caused turnovers, and Bishop has tallied six ground balls and two draw controls.

Meghan Datema is another vital component along the midfield, as are Kira Dosenberry and Danielle Tunnell. Datema has put up 21 goals and four assists to go along with her team-leading 30 draw controls, 10 ground balls and two caused turnovers. Dosenberry has tallied 20 points on 17 goals and three assists in addition to 25 ground balls, 21 draw controls, and 13 caused turnoves, and Tunnell has put up 11 goals and two assist to pair with her nine ground balls, four draw controls, and four caused turnovers.

In addition to their high-scoring offense, Grand Valley State also holds one of the top defenses in the conference and in the country. The Lakers have allowed just 94 goals through 10 games, fewest in the GLIAC and 16th-fewest in Division II, and averaged a GLIAC-best 9.40 goals allowed per game. Leading this defense into the weekend set will be Caitlin Wojichowski. The defender has tallied 20 caused turnovers this season and averaged 2.00 per game, putting her in a tie for 34th in total caused turnovers and in a tie for 20th in caused turnovers per game, and also ranking her atop the conference in both categories.

Also starting along the backline for GVSU are Adrianna Smith and Chloe Zdybel. Zdybel has caused six turnovers while also putting up eight ground balls and six draw controls, while Smith has caused four turnovers along with scooping up seven ground balls and pulling down three draw controls. Kelly Leibovitz has also been a contributor as a defensive midfielder, with 21 ground ball pick ups to go with her six caused turnovers and five draw control wins.

Sarah Zwilsky will be making the start for the Lakers in both games this season, as the junior has done all season. Zwilsky ranks as one of the best goalies in the conference in the country, as she leads the GLIAC and ranks 33rd in goals-against-average (9.83) while making 57 saves in 470 minutes on the field. Zwilsky recorded a first-half shutout against Walsh, and recorded a season-high 11 saves against Tiffin.

GVSU will face Findlay in Tiffin once again just two weeks after their previous showdowns. Findlay enters Friday in the midst of a four-game losing streak to bring their record to 6-6 overall and 3-4 in the conference.  The Oilers will be led in this game by Sarah Lankton, who scored three goals and led all players with eight draw controls, leads Findlay in every category with 51 points on 36 goals and 15 assists while tallying 67 draw controls, 42 ground balls and 18 caused turnovers. Kyra Bradley, who scored four goals against the Lakers, stands second on the team with 41 points on 35 goals and six assists. Findlay turned to Brooke Eicher the last time these teams met, and made six saves while giving up 17 goals in 41:50 of action.

On the heels of two straight wins, Tiffin enters Saturday's game with a 7-5 overall record and 5-2 mark in the GLIAC to tie for second in the conference standings. The Dragons, who narrowly lost 13-10 in their first meeting with the Lakers, bring an offense that leads the conference with 162 total goals scored and ranks second behind GV in goals scored per game (13.50). Leading this offense on Saturday will be Emily Roussel, who scored six goals in their first game against the Lakers, has tallied 56 points on 53 goals and three assists while also recording 27 ground balls, 19 draw controls and 18 caused turnovers. Tori Nelson is another offense threat, as she has put up 39 points on 34 goals and five assists while leading the conference with 84 draw control wins. Kat Schneeburger will be starting for the Dragons, and brings a 44.1 save percentage and 97 saves into the second game between the two teams.

Barring any inclement weather, the starting times will remain as originally scheduled. The first draw against the Oilers on Friday will take place at 4 pm, and their meeting with the Dragons on Saturday will take place at 6 pm. Links to the live statistical broadcasts for both games have been included at the top of the page as well as on the women's lacrosse schedule page.
