Lakers Drop Tough 5-4 Decision to Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS – #30 Grand Valley State women's tennis dropped an incredibly close match against #24 Indianapolis, losing 5-4 at the UIndy Tennis Center. The Lakers drop to 19-5 with the loss.
 
Grand Valley State, ranked third in the region, started off the match by winning two out of three doubles matches to pull ahead 2-1 over the Greyhounds. Madison Ballard/Alexa Sweeney won match No. 2 9-7, while Abby Perkins/Livia Christman went on to win 8-2 in the third doubles match.
 
GV couldn't maintain their lead as they went 2-4 in singles competition to lose the in-region match. Ballard and Aimee Moccia won the two team points from singles play for the Lakers. Moccia won match No. 3 (6-2, 7-5) and Ballard took match No. 4 in three sets (6-1, 3-6, 6-1). In the final single flight of the match, Samantha Schrepferman took her opponent to the tiebreaker third set, but couldn't pull it out and win the match (5-7, 6-3, 6-1).
 
The Lakers hit the courts again on Saturday (Mar. 26) at 6 pm when they take on Missouri-St. Louis.
