Lindenwood (Feb. 28):
Live StatsALLENDALE, Mich. - Grand Valley State has their sights set on yet another highly-ranked opponent this weekend as the 11th-ranked Lakers travel to St. Charles, Missouri to go toe-to-toe with the third-ranked Lindenwood Lions on Sunday (Feb. 28).
Grand Valley State, 1-1 after splitting their opening set of games with a win against Florida Southern and a loss to Adelphi, are ranked 11th in the latest IWLCA Division II coaches poll and 10th in the latest Nike/Lacrosse Magazine Division II media poll. Despite losing a 16-6 decision to two-time reigning national champion Adelphi, the Lakers moved up from 15th in both polls following their 10-7 upset victory over #5 Florida Southern.
Ryan Skomial leads the Laker offense with five points on three goals and two assists, while
Meghan Datema leads the team in scoring with four goals and in draw control wins with eight.
Erika Neumen has also scored three goals in two games, while
Danielle Tunnell has put up two goals and an assist and
Carlyn Shisler tallied two goals against Florida Southern.
In the defensive side of the field, the Lakers have caused 11 turnovers in two games, with
Caitlin Wojichowski and
Winnie Bohls causing two apiece.
Sarah Zwilsky has also played well in both games, making a combined 13 saves and letting in only five goals in the team's 10-7 win against Florida Southern.
2-0 win season-opening wins against Indianapolis and McKendree, Lindenwood is looking to make their third straight trip to the NCAA Tournament and advance to their first National Championship as one of the top teams in the South Region. Leading the way for the Lions on offense this season will look to be Nike/Lacrosse Magazine Division II Preseason All-American and RMAC Preseason Player of the Year Jordyn Constance. Constance, also an IWLCA Third Team All-American in 2015, has combined for three goals and three assists and six draw controls in the first two games of the season. Another dangerous player the Lakers must look out for will be Allison Hurley, who leads the team in goals assists (5) and points (9) and is tied for the team-lead in goals with four.
Defensively, the Lions are looking to resume or improve upon a defense that averaged 7.30 goals allowed per game and totaled 166 caused turnovers. Leading this year's defense will be RMAC Preseason Midfielder of the Year Sophie Buelow and RMAC Preseason Defender of the Year Molly Beckham. In goal will most likely be RMAC Preseason Goalie of the Year Rachel Ortell.
The two teams have met four times in five years, with Lindenwood holding a 4-0 advantage over Grand Valley State. The most recent meeting between the two teams was last season, when Lindenwood travelled to Allendale and came away with a 14-5 victory over the Lakers.
Opening draw is scheduled for a 4 pm EST start time. A link to the live statistical broadcast is available at the top of this page as well as on the women's lacrosse schedule page. Following their game on Sunday, Grand Valley State wraps up their non-conference schedule with a trip to the Northeast to take on #18 Bentley on March 8 and #2 Le Moyne on March 12.
