Laker S&D Sweeps Wayne State In GLIAC Dual

Results

The Grand Valley State men's and women's swimming and diving teams claimed a GLIAC sweep Saturday afternoon at Wayne State. The #2Laker men dominated the Warriors en route to a 199-100 win, while the Laker women claimed a 183-116 win. The Laker men and women will host Findlay January 23 at 1 p.m.
Women
The Laker women started the dual in fine fashion, taking the top two spots in the 200 medley relay. Meghan Falconer, Emily Gallagher, Mercedes Martinez and Leonie Van Noort touched first in time of 1:46.12, while Kaitlin Cassel, Celia Hoag, Hannah Richard and Jenn Priebe touched second in 1:47.06.
Sam Possums led another 1-2 finish for the Lakers in the 1000 free, touching the wall in 10:32.63, followed by Megan Shaughnessy in second (10:35.28).  Carolin Bremerton was third in 10:53.38. 
Van Noord led a 1-2-3 finish for the Lakers in the 200 free with a winning time of 1:53.35. Kathryn Culver was second (1:54.09) and Lara Decibel third (1:54.75). Falconer hit the wall first in the 100 back with a time of 57.85, followed Cassel in second (58.82). Gallagher hit the wall first in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.31)
The Lakers added yet another 1-2 finish when Mercedes hit the wall first in the 200 fly (2:10.06), followed closely by Hannah Deak in second (2:10.17).  It was;t until the seventh event that the Lakers would not touch first, however, GVSU did go 2-3-4-5. Priebe touched second (24.73), Deibel third (24.75), Culver fourth (24.77) and Hannah Richard fifth (25.39). 
Following a break for diving Culver hit the wall first in the 100 free (52.87), followed by Van Noort in third (53.04) and Deibel in fourth (53.69). Falconer recorded a first-place finish in the 200 back (2:04.56), while Julia Suriano finished third (2:08.22) and Hailey Garlich fourth (2:08.50). 
Gallagher kept the 1-2 theme alive for the Lakers as she touched first in the 200 breast (2:25.39) and Hoag second (2:26.42). 
Van Noort led a 1-2-3 finish in the 500 free with a time of 4:59.73. Postmus was second (5:04.67) and Shaughnessy third (5:12.99). Cassel hit the wall first in the 100 fly (58.60) and Deak was second (58.64). 
Martinez touched the wall second in the 200 IM (2:12.56) and Garlich was fourth (2:14.27).  Sam Postmus won the event (2:10.25) but swam as exhibition.
The Lakers' 200 free relay team of Richard, Falconer, Shaughnessy and Rachel Skoog touched second in 1:40.41. The relay team of Gallagher, Priebe, Culver and Decibel touched first but swam as an exhibition. 
Kayla Marquardt finished third on the 1-meter board with a score of 234.10, while Taylor Wiercinski was third on the 3-meter board with a score of 229.40. 
Men
The Laker men got off to fast start as Gianni Ferrero, Marius Mikalauskas, Gabriel Souza and Danny Abbott hit the wall first in the 200 medley relay (1:31.43). Jose Hidalgo Vilela, Tim Harris, Nick Zacek and Ben Walling touched third (1:35.17). 
Grant Borregard hit the wall first in the 1000 free (9:49.48), followed by Brien Moffatt in second (9:50.67) and Matt Stevens in fourth (10:20.40). 
The Lakers went 1-2-3-4 in the 200 free, highlighted by a first-place finish by Gonzalo Rodriquez (1:44.37). John Eber touched second (1:45.07), Nick Zacek third (1:45.22) and Nate Wagner fourth (1:47.11). Ferrero touched first in the 100 back (49.38), while Hidalgo Vilela was fourth (52.83).
GVSU went 1-2-3 in the 200 fly as Marius Mikalauskas touched first (56.60), Garret McCormick second (58.30) and Tim Harris third (58.44).  Jesus Morales touched second in the 200 fly (1:54.75), while Souza touched fourth (1:59.62). Abbott touched first in the 50 free (21.32), while Walling was third (21.59). 
The Lakers dominated the diving board with a 1-2-3-4 finish on the 1 meter. Jared Gregory was first with a score of 316.85, followed by Ian Ellis in second (264.35), Joe Gucwa in third (256.90) and Brad Dalrymple in fourth (256.70).  Dalrymple was first on the 3-meter board with a score of 310.60, while Gregory was second (253.05) and Gucwa fourth (238.40). 
Abbott added a first-place finish in the 100 free (46.75), while Walling was second (47.65) and John Eber fourth (48.58).  Hidalgo Vilela was second in the 200 back (1:51.23), followed by Borregard in third (1:53.98). 
Mikalauskas notched a first-place finish in the 200 breast (2:02.94), followed by Harris in second (2:10.04) and David Nunez in fourth (2:16.82). 
Ferrero tallied another first-place finish when he touched first in the 500 free (4:40.31) and Rodriquez was second (4:45.70).
McCormick was second in the 100 fly (51.99), followed by Morales in third (52.51).  Borregard was first in the 200 IM (1:57.10), while Rodriquez was third (1:57.92).
Ferrero was first in the 200 IM (1:54.73), but as an exhibition.
The Lakers' 200 free relay team of Mikalauskas, Eber, Nunez and Wagner touched second (1:26.98). The 200 free relay team of Souza, Zacek, Abbott and Walling swam as an exhibition and touched first in 1:24.09.
