Photo GalleryThe Grand Valley State men's and women's swimming and diving teams closed the dual meet portion of the schedule with a sweep over Findlay on senior day at the GVSU pool Saturday (Jan. 23) afternoon. The Laker women claimed a 208-81 victory, while the men won 210-80. The GVSU diving squad will host a diving meet next Friday and Saturday.
Women -
The Laker women opened with a win in the 200 medley relay as
Meghan Falconer,
Emily Gallagher,
Mercedes Martinez and
Lara Deibel touched the wall first in 1:47.87.
Leonie Van Noort cruised to a win in the 1000 free with a time of 10:19.22, followed by
Julia Suriano in second (10:48.83) and
Emily Toro in third (11:13.86).
Sophomore
Sam Postmus set the GVSU pool record in the 200 free with a time of 1:52.37, bettering the previous mark of 1:53.76.
Megan Shaughnessy was second (1:57.70) and
Jenn Priebe third (1:59.90). Postmus added another pool record to her afternoon in the 200 IM with a time of 2:06.09, bettering the previous mark of 2:07.04. Postmus added another win in the 100 free, touching in 54.19, while Culver was second (54.96) and Priebe third (55.75).
Van Noort crushed the previous school and pool record in the 200 back, touching the wall in 2:00.65. The prevous pool mark was 2:05.24 by Emily Schultz and the varsity mark was 2:02.18 by Caitlin Madsen. Falconer was second in a time of 2:08.48. Deibel hit the wall first in the 200 breast with a time of 2:25.66, followed by Hoag in second (2:32.00). Toro won the 500 free in 5:19.14 and Martinez added a win in the 100 fly (57.03).
GVSU went 1-2-3 in the 100 back led by
Kaitlin Cassell in first with a time of 59.40.
Kathryn Culver touched second (1:02.06) and
Faith Bart third (1:02.07).
Gallagher led a 1-2-3 finish in the 100 breast, touching the wall first in a time of 1:05.76. Deibel was second (1:06.91) and
Celia Hoag third (1:10.62).
Hannah Deak and
Elise Tatchell tied for second in the 200 fly, touching the wall in 2:14.43. Martinez hit the wall first in the 50 free (25.03, followed by Priebe in second (25.21) and VanNoort in fourth (25.48). GVSU won the 200 free relay as Gallagher, Van Noort,
Hannah Richard and Priebe hit the wall first in 1:38.75.
Senior
Taylor Wiercinski finished first on the 1-meter (306.60) and 3-meter boards (318.38), followed by
Kayla Marquardt's second-place finishes on the 1-meter (258.87) and 3-meter (286.35).
Men -
The Laker men opened strong as
Gianni Ferrero,
Marius Mikalauskas,
Danny Abbott and
Ben Walling hit the wall first in 1:33.43. Joseba Hidalgo Vilela,
Martin Plummer,
Garret McCormick and
JD Ham touched second (1:38.38), followed by
Daniel Middleton,
Tim Harris,
Nick Zacek and
David Nunez in third (1:38.60). Walling,
Danny Abbott, Mikalauskas, and Ham hit the wall first 1:25.40 in the 200 free relay.
Mikalauskas broke the pool record in the 200 breast, hitting the wall in 2:01.87, bettering one of the oldest pool records (2:03.77). Morales was second (2:13.64) and Plummer third (2:18.80).
Michael Hudson picked up a win in the 1000 free, hitting the wall in 9:40.89, followed by
Matt Stevens in second (10:12.07).
John Eber hit the wall first in the 200 free (1:42.87), while
Nate Wagner was second (1:48.27). Vilela led a 1-2-3 finish in the 100 back (53.72), followed by Middleton in second (55.71) and Walling in third 56.31.
Abbott hit the wall first in the 50 free (21.20) and Ham was second (22.38). Walling picked up a win in the 100 free, hitting the wall in 47.96. Zacek touched second (48.86) and Wagner third (49.09) to complete the 1-2-3 finish for the Lakers.
Ferrero led another 1-2-3 finish in 200 back when he touched the wall first in 1:51.00, followed by Hudson in second (1:54.55) and Gorregard in third (1:58.15).
Moffitt hit the wall first in the 500 free (4:47.72) and Abbott was second in the 100 fly (52.21).
Harris closed the individual events for the Lakers with a win in the 200 IM (1:57.92).
Jared Gregory led a 1-2-3 finish on the 1-meter board with a score of 284.92.
Brad Dalrymple was second (277.49) and
Ian Ellis third (270.97). Dalrymple then reversed the results on the 3-meter board with a first-place score of 333.38, followed by Gregory in second (286.35) and
Joe Gucwa in third 283.35.
Grant Borregard touched second in the 200 fly (1:57.91) and
Jesus Morales was third (1:59.00).
