ALLENDALE, Mich. – Grand Valley State women's tennis continues their winning ways late into the spring schedule as they blanked Davenport, 9-0, at the Ramblewood Tennis & Health Club in Grandville.
The Lakers, ranked 39th in Division II and third in the Midwest in the latest ITA polls, improves to 19-6 with the victory and ups their current winning streak to three. Meanwhile, Davenport, ranked 10th in the NAIA, sees their record fall to 5-5 with the loss.
GVSU kicked off the match in doubles competition with

Kali Phillips – the eighth-ranked doubles team in the Midwest – taking down the Alyssa Fuented/Emily Spiech, the 12th ranked doubles team in NAIA, 8-6 in the No. 1 match. The other doubles teams of
Carola Orna/
Alexa Sweeney – ranked ninth in the Region – and
Aimee Moccia/
Morgan Patterson won their matches easily, with Orna/Sweeney winning 8-3 in the No. 2 match and Moccia/Patterson winning 8-0 in the No. 3 match.
The Lakers continued their winning ways into singles play, defeating two ranked opponents as they shut out their opponent. Dancz, the 11th ranked singles player in the Midwest Region, downed the 34th-ranked NAIA player 6-2, 4-6, 10-6 to improve to 10-11 in dual matches on the year, while Orna knocked off the 41st-ranked NAIA player 4-6, 6-2, 10-4 to improve her record to 18-2 in dual matches on the season.
Grand Valley State hits the courts again on Friday (Mar. 27) when they host Indiana Wesleyan at 3 p.m. at the Ramblewood Tennis & Health Club.
