ResultsMIDLAND, Mich. – Grand Valley State women's tennis sees themselves to their second consecutive GLIAC Tournament Championship as the top-seeded Lakers took down fourth-seeded Tiffin 5-2 in the semifinal at the Greater Midland Tennis Center on Saturday.

With the win, the top-seeded Lakers improve their record to 13-1 as the look to win their first GLIAC Tournament since the 2010 season. Grand Valley State also won a share of the regular season title with Northwood due to both teams having the same record against conference opponents. Meanwhile, Tiffin sees their mark fall to 11-4.

Like they did in their quarterfinal match on Friday (Oct. 23) against eighth-seeded Walsh, GVSU won all three doubles matches to go on top 3-0.

Madison Ballard won the No. 2 match 8-5 against Valentina Mazzola/Bianca Avram, and
Abby Perkins/
Livia Christman won 8-4 over Caroline Harpainter/Adel Musina in the No. 3 match.

Grand Valley State went 2-2 in singles competition, earning the necessary five points to claim the match. Sweeney won match No. 2 (6-2, 6-3) over Mazzola, and Christman won match No. 4 (6-2, 6-0) over Harpainter. Perkins lost match No. 1 (4-6, 6-4, 6-1) against Nelhage, and Moccia was defeated (6-3, 6-4) in match No. 3 by Musina. The No. 5 and No. 6 matches featuring Sumner and
Samantha Schrepferman went unfinished.

Grand Valley State will square off on Sunday (Oct. 25) at 8:15 am in the GLIAC Tournament Championship against Northwood for the automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament in May. The two teams last faced one another on September 13, with the host Lakers prevailing 6-3 against the favored Timberwolves.
