Box Score Grand Valley State claimed a 72-64 GLIAC road win at Wayne State Friday (Dec. 2) night before an announced crowd of 629. GVSU improves to 7-4 overall and 3-2 in GLIAC action. The Lakers, riding a four-game winning streak, will play at Findlay Sunday (Dec. 4) afternoon at 3 p.m. All of the action can be heard live on WMUS-FM 107.9 or WTKG-AM 1230.
For the third consecutive game Grand Valley State did not trail as junior forward Richardo Carbajal slammed one home to give GVSU a 4-2 lead at the 17:49 mark of the first half.
Darren Washington opened the game with a layup and Wayne State tied it up just moments later, however, following the Carbajal dunk GVSU led for the remainder of the contest.
Leading 13-12 with 11:04 remaining in the opening half, GVSU went on a 10-0 run over a three minute stretch to build a 23-12 advantage. Senior guard
Ryan Sabin scored on a layup, followed by a bucket and free throw from Carbajal. Sabin drilled a 3-pointer and sophomore
Luke Ryskamp scored in the paint to close the run. Thel Lakers led 30-25 after 20 minutes of action.Â
The Warriors pulled to within two points (33-31) early in the second half, but Carbajal started a 16-2 run for the Lakers with a layup at the 17:11 mark. Sabin scored on a three-point play, followed by a free throw from freshman guard
Sam McClendon. Sabin added another bucket in the paint and Carbajal closed the run with a laypup at the 15:13 mark to give GVSU a 43-31 lead. A Wayne State bucket halted a 10-0 run, but a Carbajal layup and four consecutive points from Ryskamp gave GVSU its largest lead of the game (49-33) with 13:03 left. GV was 13-for-18 from charity stripe in final nine minutes of the game to complete the victory.Â
GVSU held a 40-24 advantage in points scored in the paint and outscored the Warriors 24-11 in points off turnovers. In addition, the Lakers held a 12-4 advantage in fastbreak points and a 24-21 advantage in bench points. Â Grand Valley State also notched 10 steals and now have 22 steals in the last two games.Â
Sabin led the way with 19 points and five rebounds, while Carbajal added 17 points. Ryskamp chipped in 11 points, five rebounds and a game-high four assists. Junior guard

Trevin Alexander pulled down a game-high nine rebounds and scored six points. McClendon chipped in six points.Â
