The Grand Valley State men's basketball team opens up the home portion of its 2014-15 schedule tomorrow afternoon (Nov. 22) against Cedarville inside the Fieldhouse Arena. GVSU will take on the Yellow Jackets at 2:00 p.m.

Saturday's game was originally scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. tipoff, but Grand Valley State is the host of the Midwest Region volleyball tournament - and Saturday night's championship match at 7:00 p.m. - so both the men's and women's games were moved up one hour. The Laker women face Indianapolis at 12:00 p.m.

This marks the fourth straight season GVSU and Cedarville have met on the court. The Yellow Jackets won the initial meeting in Ohio in the 2011-12 season, while Grand Valley State has won the last two meetings. During the 2012-13 season - the only prior meeting in Allendale - the Lakers topped Cedarville 69-66 in overtime. Last season, GVSU was victorious 83-69 at Cedarville.

Grand Valley State is 1-1 on the year, while the Yellow Jackets are 1-2. Last weekend at the Microtel GLIAC/GLVC Challenge in Quincy, Ill., the Lakers had a pair of close games, falling in the opener to Missouri-St. Louis (58-53) before defeating Quincy (69-67) on its home floor.

GVSU will be Cedarville's fourth GLIAC oppenent thus far in the season. The Yellow Jackets opened the year with a 90-86 home win over Ohio Dominican, but have lost to Ashland (75-60) and at Findlay (96-77) in their most recent outings. Cedarville is a member of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC).

In two games so far, the Laker defense has looked terrific. Grand Valley State held Missouri-St. Louis to 24.5 percent shooting in the season opener and forced Quincy into a 35.2 percentage from the field in the two-point victory.

The Lakers have also done well in the painted area, owning a 26-10 edge over UMSL in the paint, and topping Quincy 28-22 down low. GVSU has won the rebounding battle in both contests by identical 38-34 margins.

Senior guard Ryan Sabin notched his first career double-double in the loss to Missouri-St. Louis. He tallied 13 points and a career-best 10 boards. Sabin has hit six three-pointers so far this season and has already moved from 10th place to eighth place on the GVSU career list.

After Saturday's game, the Lakers are on the road for their next four outings. Grand Valley State heads to Owensboro, Ky. for a holiday tournament on Nov. 28-29. GVSU will take on the host school - Kentucky Wesleyan - next Friday and will face either North Alabama or Truman State on Saturday afternoon.

On Dec. 4-6, Grand Valley State travels to Ohio to start GLIAC play at Ashland and Lake Erie.
