Complete ResultsThe Grand Valley State men's and women's swimming & diving teams competed Friday (Oct. 24) at Calvin College in a men's dual and a women's triangular. The Laker men defeated Calvin 177-65, while the Laker women defeated Hillsdale 74-60 and Calvin 74-56.
The GVSU women won 10 events, including two each by freshman Sam Postmus (200 IM/500 Free) and
Taylor Wiercinski (1 & 3-meter). GVSU opened the meet by going 1-2 in the 400 medley relay.
Meghan Falconer,
Emily Gallagher,
Hannah Deak and
Emily Eaton touched first in 4:-1.49, while the relay team of
Julia Suriano,
Kathryn Culver, Sam Postmus and Jenn Priebe touched second (4:04.59). Postmus won the 200 IM (2:07.13) and the 500 free (5:14.82), while Wiercinski claimed top honors on the 1-meter (275.95) and 3-meter (277.00) diving boards.
Elise Tatchell touched first in the 200 butterfly (2:09.31), while
Olivia Schultz finished first in the 200 back (2:07.34) and
Emily Gallagher captured the win in the 200 breast. The Lakers' 400 free relay team of
Sarah Roeser,
Olivia Schultz,
Kathryn Culver and
Emily Eaton also touched first in 3:35.72. Tatchell added a second-place finish in the 1000 free (11:04.22), while
Allyson O'Connell touched third (11:14.09). Roeser touched second in the 200 free (1:58.76) and third in the 100 free (54.00), while Schultz finished third in the 50 free (25.13).
Julia Suriano finished second behind Schultz in the 200 back (2:08.61) and
Meghan Falconer was third (2:12.37). Following Postmus in the 200 IM was
Emily Eaton who touched second (2:11.10).
Anna Barry finished second on the 1-meter board (235.25) and was followed by
Kayla Marquardt (233.15). Marquardt added a fourth on the 3-meter board (234.95).
The Laker men won 12 events and tallied a 1-2 finish in 11 events.
Grand Valley State went 1-2 in the 400 medley relay.
Gianni Ferrero,
Milan Medo, Nate Stoller and Nate Wagner touched first in 3:28.40, followed by Joseba Hidalgo Vilela,
Martin Plummer,
Nick Zacek and
John Eber in second (3:35.75). The Lakers closed the night with a win in 400 free relay as Ferrero, Eber, Zacek and Kardol touched first in 3:10.86.
Patrick Sheppell led a 1-2-3 finish in the 1000 free (9:46.13), followed by
Michael Hudson (9:49.99) and
Sven Kardol (10:01.75).
Milan Medo won the 200 free (1:43.34), while
Grant Borregard touched second (1:46.96). Nate Wagner finished second in the 50 free (22.11) and Stoller finished third (22.25). Ferrero finished first in the 200 IM (1:54.36), followed by Hidalgo Vilela in second (2:00.12). Kardol tallied a first-place finish in the 200 fly (1:56.69) and Wagner chipped in a win in the 100 free (48.12). Hidalgo Vilela added a win in the 200 back (1:55.63), while
Michael Hudson finished second (1:59.01). Sheppell led a clean sweep in the 500 free (4:48.80), followed by
Brien Moffitt in second (4:50.44) and
Grant Borregard in third (4:50.95). Medo added a first-place finish in teh 200 breast (2:10.21).
GVSU swept the diving events as
Ian Ellis recorded a first-place finish on the 3-meter (278.10) and led a 1-2-3 sweep. Nick Burciaga was second (249.95) and Joe Gucwa was third (239.60). Burciaga won the 1-meter board (296.05), followed by Ellis (280.65) and
Jared Gregory (267.25).
