ResultsALLENDALE - In their home finale of the 2014 season, the Grand Valley State women's tennis team handed visiting Ashland a 9-0 defeat at the GVSU Tennis Courts. The win improves the Lakers' overall and conference records to 9-1, while Ashland falls to 0-12 on the year and 0-11 in GLIAC play.

John Black honored his six seniors on the roster in today's win against Ashland. In singles play,
Leah Dancz defeated her opponent in straight sets (6-0, 7-5) to up her career singles record to 47-35 with two matches still to go. Up next was fellow senior
Kali Phillips, who kept her opponent off the board in both sets of her game (6-0, 6-0) to improve her all-time collegiate record to 60-19. In the #3 spot,
Carola Orna had little difficulty with her opponent (6-1, 6-1) as she improved to 36-4 all-time in singles play at Grand Valley State.
Kelly Trapp earned her 58th-career win with ease (6-0, 6-2) in the five spot, while
Morgan Patterson blanked her opponent (6-0, 6-0) to give her 49 career wins. And although she didn't play on Sunday, senior
Kristina Lucas' all-time record as a Grand Valley State Laker stands at 32-4 with two matches and the GLIAC Tournament still to play.
Moving over to doubles play, the pairing of Orna/
Alexa Sweeney were the only Laker team to keep their opponent off the scoreboard (8-0). Orna upped her doubles career record to 31-18, while Dancz's doubles record currently stands at 70-28 with today's win, Phillips is 52-18, and Patterson is 43-8. All have an opportunity to add at least two more regular season wins to their records.
The Lakers return to the court on October 17 when they head to Big Rapids to take on local rival Ferris State. GVSU is then on the road to Midland for their regular season finale against Northwood.
