Ryan Garman is entering his first season as a student assistant with the Grand Valley State baseball team after capping a highly-successful two-year career with the Lakers as a starting pitcher in 2012. Garman finished his career with a record of 19-3, a 2.36 ERA, 119 strikeouts in 149 innings pitched and a .214 batting average against. He was a two-time all-region honoree and a two-time First Team All-GLIAC pick. Garman threw the seventh individual no-hitter in Grand Valley State history on April 3rd, 2011, against Ashland, surrendering only two walks while striking out eight. His 19 wins is tied for the ninth-most in a career at GVSU.
2012: Daktronics and NCBWA Second Team All-Midwest Region...First Team All-GLIAC...Appeared in 15 games (15 starts), going 10-2 with a 2.91 ERA and two complete games, leading the team in victories...Compiled 80.1 innings of work, striking out 68 and allowing only a .215 batting average against...Allowed more than two earned runs in only two of his 15 starts...After his first two starts, he went 10-1 with a 1.70 ERA to finish out the year...Threw a complete game with a career-high 11 strikeouts at Urbana (3/17), surrendering only three hits in seven innings...Struck out nine in 5.1 innings of work against Ashland (3/31)...Had back-to-back starts of five shutout innings against Hillsdale (4/10) and Tiffin (4/14)...Threw 8.2 innigns of shutout baseball against Tiffin (5/10) with six strikeouts.
2011: ABCA First Team All-Midwest Region...Daktronics Second Team All-Midwest Region...NCBWA Second Team All-Midwest Region...First Team All-GLIAC...Finished the season 9-1 with a 1.70 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 68.2 IP with one complete game shutout...Threw the seventh no-hitter in GVSU history against Ashland (4/3) (7 IP, 0 H, 2 BB, 8 K)...Held opponents to a .214 batting average including lefties hitting only .208...Also held opponents to a .180 batting average with runners on base...Did not allowed more than two earned runs in any starts this season...Named GLIAC Pitcher of the Week (4/4).
Prior to GVSU: Spent two seasons at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kan....Played for Kent Shelley...Went 7-3 with a 3.45 ERA and 1.33 WHIP in 67 innings pitched, striking out 57 with five complete games in 2010.
