ALLENDALE, MICH. – The Great Lakers Intercollegiate Athletic Conference released their postseason awards Friday afternoon, with 10 Lakers earning honors. Three players earned Player of the Year honors, with head coach
Dominique Hamman garnering Coach of the Year accolades. The 10 All-GLIAC selections were the most of any team in the league.
Grand Valley State senior
Ella Boose has been named GLIAC Midfielder of the Year. Boose helped lead the Lakers to another GLIAC regular season title, pacing the team in goals, points, and draw controls. She ranks second in the league with 49 goals and 60 points, and her 60 draw controls ranked fourth. Twice named the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week, Boose posted nine games with three or more goals this season, including six in league play. A First-Team All-GLAIC selection, Boose recorded the 100
th point, 100
th goal, and 100
th draw control of her career earlier this season. She becomes the seventh Laker to Midfielder of the Year honors.
Senior defender
Karleigh Rothe of Grand Valley State has been named GLIAC Defender of the Year. This season, Rothe has tallied 34 groundballs and caused 23 turnovers, both second on the team. She has played a key role on a defense that has held 10 straight opponents, including all GLIAC teams, to eight goals or fewer in a game. Now a three-time All-GLIAC honoree, Rothe has seven games this season causing multiple turnovers and nine games with two or more groundballs. She becomes the ninth player in program history to earn this award.
For the second straight season, GVSU senior
Sarah Krause was named GLIAC Goalkeeper of the Year. Krause recorded 123 saves on a .488 save percentage, posting an 8.77 goal against average. During conference play, she has been on another level, allowing just over four goals a game, while tallying a save percentage of .633, winning all eight contests. She ranks in the top 15 nationally in both save percentage and goals against average, while being in the top 40 in saves and saves per game. Krause became just the fifth player in program history to save over 200 shots, and her 274 career saves currently ranks second in program history. She is the second player in program history to win two GLIAC Goalkeeper of the Year awards, and the sixth Laker goalie to win.
Joining those three on the first team were
Gracie Bancroft and
Quinn McElroy. Bancroft was second on the team with 24 goals, totaling 35 points. She scored four hat tricks this season, including a career-high six goals in the season finale against SVSU. A second-team selection last season, Bancroft has totaled two game-winning goals this season. One of three Lakers to start all 17 games, McElroy has caused a team-high 28 turnovers. The junior has picked up 34 groundballs and dished out one assist.
Three Lakers represented the second team, with
Delaney Smith,
Leah Leonard, and
Kylie Waeghe all earning a spot. Smith ranked second on the team with 36 points, distributing a team-high 22 assists to go along with 14 goals. She added 31 draw controls and 14 groundballs. Making her first career All-GLIAC selection, Leonard has set career highs in goals (19), assists (6), and points (25). She has two hat tricks on the season, scoring a career-high six goals at Davenport. On the backline, Waeghe makes her fourth appearance on the conference awards. The senior has picked up 19 groundballs and caused 15 turnovers, recording the 100
th groundball of her career earlier this season.
Selected to the honorable mention All-GLIAC squad were seniors
Jillian Bingman and
Ainsley Shilling. Bingman has totaled 28 points on 12 goals and 16 assists, recording two multi-goal contests. Shilling was voted a team captain prior to the season, then posted career-highs in points (19) and assists (10), while also scoring nine goals. She added 21 groundballs and caused 11 turnovers.
Grand Valley State head coach
Dominique Hamman has been named the GLIAC Women's Lacrosse Coach of the Year. Hamman guided the Lakers to their 13
th regular season conference title, going a perfect 8-0 in league play. GVSU placed 10 players on the all-conference teams, the most of any team in the GLIAC. Additionally, the Lakers earned Midfielder of the Year, Defender of the Year, and Goalkeeper of the Year. Over her two years in Allendale, the Lakers have racked up 26 victories, going 16-0 in conference play.
