Lakers Claim Senior Day Victory

ALLENDALE, MICH. – The Grand Valley State women's lacrosse team closed out the regular season with a dominant 21-1 Senior Day victory over SVSU. This was the Lakers' 10th straight victory, moving them to 10-7 overall and a perfect 8-0 in league play.
 
Prior to the game, the Lakers honored the careers of Ella Boose, Kylie Waeghe, Ainsley Shilling, Jillian Bingman, Gracie Bancroft, Eliana LaMange, Jill Dennison, Grace Maddox, and Sarah Krause. Also honored were Gabby Mainhardt and Izzy Imes.
 
The two teams traded goals in the first seven minutes of action, before the Lakers scored the next 20 goals. They had three more in the first quarter, then added seven in the second to lead 11-1. GVSU piled on with six more in the third quarter, then finally four in the last period.
 
Gracie Bancroft scored a career-high six goals, including a stretch of three straight in the second half. Ella Boose tallied five goals and Leah Leonard struck twice. Eight Lakers scored once, including Kylie Waeghe and Camryn Swiggum each scoring their first goals of the season. Jillian Bingman had four assists, with Ainsley Shilling dished out two. Four others each had one assist. Isabella De La Cerda grabbed eight draw controls and Boose picked up four.
 
The Laker defense allowed only four total shots, with the Cardinals turning it over 29 times. Eliana LaMange and Karleigh Rothe each caused four turnovers, while Kendra Swope, Delaney Smith, and Leah Leonard all caused two. Swope picked up four groundballs, with Smith and Sydney Grafton each grabbing four.

The Lakers will host Davenport next Friday at 4:30 pm in the opening round of the GLIAC Tournament.
