ALLENDALE, MICH. – The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced their all-conference teams this morning, and three Lakers earned postseason honors.
Paige VanStee,
Nicole Kamin, and
MacKenzie Bisballe were all named First-Team All-GLIAC and to the GLIAC All-Defensive team. The three first-team selections was tied for the most in the conference, and the three on the all-defensive team led the league.
Paige VanStee put together the best season of her career as a senior, leading the Lakers in points, rebounds, and steals. VanStee averaged 15 points and 6.5 rebounds this season, totaling five double-doubles and six games scoring over 20 points. She shot 49.2% from the field and 80.5% from the free throw line, while adding 69 steals, 39 assists, and 16 blocks. The Middleville, Michigan native was a two-time GLIAC Player of the Week selection, once for both offense and defense. This is the second time in her career that VanStee was selected as an All-GLIAC performer, earning Sixth Woman of the Year and second-team honors as a sophomore.
For the third consecutive season,
Nicole Kamin was voted First-Team All-GLIAC and as a member of the all-defensive team. The senior led the Lakers with 105 assists, while scoring 9.2 points per game. She added 3.8 rebounds, 48 steals, and 11 blocks. Kamin shot a team-high 81.3% from the free throw line. She tallied 13 games with double-figure points and played a key role in guarding the opponent's best player for the league's top-ranked defense.
In her first year as a starter, sophomore
MacKenzie Bisballe was a force in the paint for the Lakers. Bisballe led the conference shooting 54.7% from the field, averaging 14 points and 5.8 rebounds. She led the team with 33 blocks, adding 37 steals. Hailing from Lake City, Michigan, Bisballe totaled three double-doubles and recorded 23 games scoring in double-figures, getting over 20 points on four occasions. Last season, Bisballe was the league's Freshman of the Year and earned a spot on the All-Defensive team.
The Lakers will host the GLIAC Tournament semifinals and championship games this weekend. GVSU plays Northern Michigan Saturday at 2:00.
