GLIAC Semifinals Up Next For GVSU Women

ALLENDALE, MICH. – The Grand Valley State women's basketball team continues their postseason run on Saturday with the GLIAC Tournament semifinals. The Lakers will square off with Northern Michigan Saturday afternoon in the Fieldhouse Arena.

Grand Valley State took down Lake Superior State in the quarterfinal round, winning 89-45. MacKenzie Bisballe led the way with 16 points, with Ava Scanlon adding 12 points and five rebounds. Nicole Kamin and Lauren Slagle each scored 10 points in the victory. GVSU shot 52.2% from the floor and scored 58 points in the paint.
 
Ranked second in the country and number one in the Midwest Region, the Lakers are trying to win their fourth straight GLIAC Tournament title. The regular season champions are 28-1 thus far and a perfect 13-0 on their home floor. Bisballe, Kamin, and Paige VanStee were all named First-Team All-GLIAC and the league's all-defensive team. The Lakers hold the conference's top scoring offense and scoring defense and have won seven consecutive games.
 
The Lakers and Wildcats have matched up twice in the regular season, with GVSU taking both games. They won up in Marquette 78-66, then took the matchup in Allendale 70-47. Over the two games, Bisballe averaged 19.5 points and 9.5 rebounds, while Kamin totaled 15.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and five assists.
 
Northern Michigan earned the four-seed in the GLIAC Tournament, defeating Michigan Tech in the first round. The Wildcats are ranked 21st in the country and are 25-6 this season. NMU is led by two First-Team All-GLIAC selections in guards Jacy Weisbrod and Sarah Newcomer, the team's top two scorers. The Wildcats have the second-best defense in the conference, allowing only 62.1 points per game. In the most recent Midwest regional ranking, they were the five seed in the region.
