ALLENDALE, MICH. – The Grand Valley State women's basketball team began postseason play Wednesday night with the GLIAC Tournament quarterfinals. The top-seeded Lakers played the eight seed, LSSU in the opening round. GVSU never trailed in the game, rolling to an 89-45 victory. The Lakers are now 28-1 this season.
Grand Valley State raced out to a 23-5 lead, getting eight points from
Nicole Kamin, and a three from
Molly Anderson during the run. After a LSSU triple, GVSU scored the final four points of the quarter, leading 27-8 after one.
The Laker lead grew above 20 points early in the second quarter, going on a 10-0 run, extending the advantage up to 39-10. It would stay a 29-point game at the half, with
Tayla Dillard drilling one from beyond the arc, making the score 44-15 at the break.
A couple of minutes into the second half,
Avery Zeinstra buried back-to-back triples, kicking off a quarter-ending 18-6 run. Heading into the fourth quarter, GVSU held a 66-30 lead.
GVSU got two threes from
Sydney Cherney and another from
Lauren Slagle to begin the fourth quarter, making the score 75-39. The Lakers pushed their lead above 40 points, ending the game with the final seven points.
MacKenzie Bisballe led the way with 16 points, with four boards, and three steals.
Ava Scanlon hit six of her eight shots to finish with 12 points and five rebounds.
Nicole Kamin and
Lauren Slagle each had 10 points.
Anayya Davis dished out a team-high five assists, adding six points and three steals. GVSU scored 58 of their points in the paint and got 53 points from their bench.
