ALLENDALE, Mich. — The Grand Valley State swim and dive teams earned dominant victories on Senior Day, honoring 19 seniors who competed across multiple events. The women won 218–74, while the men secured a 213–84 victory.
On the women's side, the 400 medley relay team of Alice Persson, Liv Geiger, Staci Nation and Lucy Hedley won with a time of 3:49.27. Katie O'Connell finished first in the 1,000 freestyle in 10:13.05, breaking a pool record that had stood for more than 10 years. Alex Evans claimed first in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:56.78.
Persson won the 100 backstroke in 57.99, while Elliott McAlpine finished first in the 100 breaststroke at 1:04.99. Senior Gaia Tomaselli captured first in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:08.22. Senior Lucy Hedley broke her own pool record in the 50 freestyle, winning in 23.12.
McAlpine also broke the pool record in the 200 breaststroke, touching the wall at 2:17.30. Tomaselli added a first-place finish in the 500 freestyle at 5:15.98. Staci Nation placed second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 58.31, while O'Connell broke another pool record in the 200 IM, winning in 2:04.25.
In diving, Emi Goto placed first in the 3-meter dive with a score of 261.23. Samantha Plough finished second (239.63), and Bradleigh Palmer placed third (238.95). Goto also won the 1-meter dive with a score of 244.73.
The women's 200 freestyle relay team of Rottier, Villamil, Zeinert and Hedley broke the pool record with a winning time of 1:33.40.
On the men's side, the 400 medley relay team of Mahmoud Abdelkarim, Andrew Goh, Ali Usama and Evan Scotto DiVetta won with a time of 3:16.09. Raul Briceno finished first in the 1,000 freestyle at 9:22.19, while freshman Thomas Ferguson won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:39.08.
Keiran Rahmaan won the 100 backstroke with a time of 49.46. Goh finished first in the 100 breaststroke at 55.60. Matti Gaebler claimed first in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:49.27. Senior Scotto DiVetta broke the pool record in the 50 freestyle, winning in 20.12.
Goh added another victory in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:05.45, while Abdelkarim won the 100 butterfly in 48.89.
In men's diving, Carter Wood placed first in the 1-meter dive with a score of 307.80. Matthew Blommel finished second (302.63), and Austin Clise placed fifth (277.65). Blommel later won the 3-meter dive with a score of 301.95.
The men's 200 freestyle relay team of Usama, Abdelkarim, Ferguson and Scotto DiVetta won with a time of 1:20.36.
