Laker Golf Wins Folds Of Honor Challenge

Andrew Gwilliams Ties For First

ALLENDALE, MICH. – The Grand Valley State men's golf team defended their home course this week, taking the title at the Folds of Honor Challenge. The Lakers won the tournament for the fourth straight year, punching their ticket to the 2026 Folds of Honor Collegiate.

GVSU shot four over in the final round to hold off a charging Aurora team who carded a -5 on the final day to climb up from fourth to second. The Lakers finished at eight over, two shots ahead of Aurora. In a tie for third were Odessa and Wayne State at +18, with Dallas Baptist in fifth, ending with a score of +23.
 
Andrew Gwilliams shot a final round of 68 (-3), making four birdies to end in a tie for first and force a playoff. The playoff lasted four holes, but ultimately Gwilliams fell on the fourth playoff hole. Bryce Wheeler was tied for fourth at even par after his final round of 71 (E) with one birdie. In a tie for ninth was Charlie Cooley, who had a third round of 73 (+2) with three birdies, to end at two over par. Murphy Kehoe ended in a tie for sixth at one over, following his round of 71 with three birdies. Three Lakers were tied for 10th, as Manuel Cue Vargas, Maverick Conaway, and Ryan Gallagher all tied at three over. Conaway shot a 71 with three birdies, while Cue carded a 73 with two birdies, then Gallagher sank four birdies in his final round of 68.
 
Finley Dober had the best round of day, carding a 66 (-5), making five birdies and an eagle, to finish in a tie for 18th at +6. Emil Olofsson ended in a tie for 39th at +13. He had a final round of 76 (+5).

The Lakers will next compete next Monday and Tuesday at the UIndy Fall Invitational.
