Men's Golf Leads Folds Of Honor Challenge

ALLENDALE, MICH. – The Grand Valley State men's golf team began play at their lone home event of the fall campaign. After the opening round of the Folds of Honor Challenge, the Lakers hold a nine-shot lead, with all nine golfers in the top 15.

The Lakers shot 283 as a team to open a nine-stroke lead after the first round. GVSU ended the day at one under par. In second is Odessa at eight over, followed by Mississippi Gulf Coast at 10 over. Dallas Baptist, Wayne State, and Aurora are all tied for fourth at 12 over par.
 
Charlie Cooley is in second-place, one shot back of the lead after day one. The senior carded a 69 (-2), making four birdies on the day. One stroke back of him is Bryce Wheeler, who shot a 70 (-1), sinking four birdies to end in third. Maverick Conaway and Manuel Cue Vargas are both tied for 10th at one over. They both made three birdies in their rounds of 72. Freshman Emil Olofsson carded a 74 (+3), making four birdies and sits in a tie for 15th.
 
Four individuals teed off for the Lakers as well, with Murphy Kehoe, Andrew Gwilliams, Ryan Gallagher, and Finley Dober all playing this tournament. Kehoe and Gwilliams are both tied for fourth after the opening round, ending at even par. They both shot 71's, with Kehoe making five birdies and Gwilliams sinking two eagles and one birdie. Ryan Gallagher is tied for 10th following his round of 72 (+1) with three birdies and one eagle. In a tie for 15th is Finley Dober, who made two birdies in his round of 74 (+3).
 
The Lakers will tee off in the morning tomorrow, with the first golfer going off at 8:00.
