ST. LOUIS, MO. – The GVSU women's lacrosse team continues their run in the NCAA Tournament Saturday afternoon, playing Maryville in the regional semifinals. The fourth-seeded Lakers and the top-seeded Saints will match at 4:00 eastern.

Grand Valley advanced to Saturday's game with a 9-4 victory over Rockhurst on Thursday. After trailing 2-1 over halfway through the first quarter, the Lakers outscored the Hawks 8-2 the rest of the way.
Kaylyn Cater and
Sarah Krause turned away 11 Hawk shots and the GVSU defense held Rockhurst to 15 shots on goals, their fifth-lowest total of the season.
Ella Boose,
Grace Maddox, and
Gracie Bancroft all notched two goals to lead the scoring. The Lakers are now 4-4 all-time in the NCAA Tournament.
The Lakers and Saints met up earlier this season in Allendale, with Maryville leaving with a 10-5 victory. The Saints led 2-1 after the opening period, then used outscored GVSU 8-2 over the next two quarters to hold a commanding 10-3 lead. The Lakers scored two fourth quarter goals, but ultimately came up short.
Kendra Swope and
Jillian Bingman both tallied two goals to lead the offense.
Kaylyn Cater and
Sarah Krause combined to stop 13 Saint shots and the Laker defense caused 15 turnovers, to help hold Maryville to their lowest scoring output of the season.
Maryville earned the top-seed in the Midwest Region for the second year in a row. This is the third straight year the Saints earned a bid to the tournament and the second straight year they will host. They fell in the regional championship game last season to Regis 10-9 on a last second goal from the Rangers. This season, the Saints dropped their season opener to number one Tampa, but since then they have rattled off 18 consecutive wins, claiming the GLVC regular season and conference tournament titles. They produced a league-best 11 All-GLVC performers, highlighted by Attacker of the Year Helen Bae. Bae has posted 86 points on 64 goals and 22 assists, adding 131 draw controls, 35 groundballs, and 25 caused turnovers. She is part of a quartet on attack, along with Marissa Zeno, Chloe Elliott, and Natalie Tomljenovic who all have over 80 points this season. The Saints have the nation's best scoring offense, totaling over 19 goals per game. On top of the that, they have the second-best scoring defense in the country, allowing just 6.84 goals a contest. Goalkeeper Gianna Guzek has started all 19 games this season, recording 106 saves and a save percentage of .484.
