ALLENDALE, MICH. – The GLIAC office released their postseason conference awards Friday evening and 10 Lakers earned honors, the most of any team in the league. GVSU earned on Player of the Year award, with
Sarah Krause earning Goalkeeper of the Year.
Junior goalkeeper
Sarah Krause was named the GLIAC Goalkeeper of the Year. Krause led the GLIAC with a .548 save percentage, posting a league-best 7.26 goals against average. She totaled 69 saves and 30 groundballs, facing 235 shots on the year. The Severna Park, Maryland native, recorded seven games of allowing three or fewer goals, including five games allowing just one goal against. She notched seven games with five or more saves, with a season-high nine versus Northern Michigan. The one-time GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week tallied the 100
th save of her career earlier this season. She becomes the fourth goalie in program history to earn GLIAC Goalkeeper of the Year.
Joining Krause on the first-team were
Zoe Ziegler,
Ashleigh Rothe,
Elora Ferrie, and
Kylie Waeghe. Ziegler put together a career-year, setting new season-highs in points (51), goals (36), and assists (15). She scored a team-best 13 free position attempt goals, and had three game-winning goals this season. Ziegler reached 100 points for her career and had nine hat tricks this season. Rothe also put together a career-best year, setting new personal-highs, and leading the team in points (73), goals (45), and assists (28). She also led the team with 32 groundballs and was tied with 53 draw controls. The senior totaled eight hat tricks, twice scoring six goals in a game. Named the GLIAC Player of the Week three times, Rothe reached multiple milestones this season, including 100 career goals, 200 career draw controls, and became the program's all-time leader in games played, with 77. Waeghe earned the third All-GLIAC selection of her career, playing a key role on the best defense in the league. She was second on the team, picking up 31 groundballs, and was tied for the team lead with 16 caused turnovers, both setting new career-highs. The junior started all 16 games for the Lakers earned one GLIAC Player of the Week honor. Also playing a big role on the Laker defensive line was
Elora Ferrie, who garners the first All-GLIAC First-Team selection of her career. Twice chosen as the league's Defensive Player of the Week, Ferrie caused 12 turnovers and picked up 14 groundballs this year.
Three Lakers earned GLIAC Second-Team honors, with
Gracie Bancroft,
Jillian Bingman, and
Ella Boose getting the selection. Mainstays on the Laker attack, Bancroft and Bingman ranked third and fourth on the team in points, both setting new career bests. Bancroft scored 28 goals, adding eight assists, totaling four hat tricks this season. Bingman had the second-most assists on the team with 16, also scoring 19 goals. She tallied two hat tricks and had four other games with multiple assists. Both players also picked up over 20 groundballs. Boose was a big reason for the Lakers draw control success this season, as she recorded a team-high 53. Additionally, Boose scored 19 times, totaling two hat tricks, and dished out seven assists for a career-high 26 points thus far.
Earning honorable mention all-conference were defenders
Quinn McElroy and
Karleigh Rothe. Two more members of the best defense in the league, that allowed just 7.38 goals per game and held opponents to a .341 shooting percentage. McElroy earns the first All-GLIAC selection of her career, as she appeared in all 16 games, picking up 22 groundballs and causing 14 turnovers. She had seven games with multiple groundballs and three games with two or more caused turnovers. Rothe earns her second honorable mention All-GLIAC, also getting recognition her freshman season. The senior caused a team-high 18 turnovers, while adding 17 groundballs. She had four games with two or more groundballs, including a game with five versus NMU, and totaled six games with multiple caused turnovers.
