Altamonte Springs, Fla. – The Grand Valley State men's tennis team advanced to the Sweet 16 round at the NCAA National Championship and are ranked fifth in the reseeding by the NCAA. The Lakers are set to face No. 12 Columbus State in the Sweet 16 round on Tuesday, May 20
th at 8:00 AM in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
The GVSU men's tennis team has advanced to nationals for the first time in program history after defeating Tiffin 4-1 in the first round and Rockhurst 4-0 in the second round in the Midwest Region. The Lakers earned the top seed in the Midwest region and hosted the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament.
GVSU heads to nationals with an 18-2 overall record. The Lakers claimed the GLIAC Regular Season Championship for the second time in program history with a perfect 7-0 conference mark. The Lakers won the GLIAC Tournament Championship for the first time in program history, defeating Wayne State 4-0 in the title match. GVSU has won 12 straight matches and were a perfect 10-0 at home this season.
Columbus State enters nationals with a 13-10 overall record. The Cougars earned the four seed in the Southeast Regional and defeated Lincoln Memorial 4-1 in the first round. Columbus State upset the top seeded Flagler College 4-2 in the second round to punch their ticket to nationals.
