Lakers Sweep Tiffin 4-0 in NCAA Tournament

Box Score INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Grand Valley State men's tennis team claimed a dominate 4-0 win over Tiffin in the first round of the NCAA tournament Monday (May 11) morning. The Lakers improve to 12-6 on the season and advance to the second round for a chance to punch their ticket to nationals. 

GVSU claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Stephen Claassen and Lawrence Ivanov tallied a 6-1 win at the No. 2 doubles position. Denys Zamaraiev and Andreu Martin secured the doubles point for the Lakers with a 6-2 win at the No. 3 position. 

In singles action, Santiago Castellanos claimed a 6-1, 6-2 straight set win at No. 6 singles. Patricio Sepulveda posted a 6-3, 6-3 straight set win at No. 5 singles. Bora Bakici clinched the win for GVSU with a 6-4, 6-1 straight set win at the top singles position. 

The Lakers advance to the second round of the NCAA tournament and will face the host and top seed UIndy for a chance to punch their ticket to nationals held in Suprise, Arizona. First serve is set for 11:00 AM at Center Grove High School.
