ALLENDALE, MICH. – The GVSU women's lacrosse team begins postseason play this weekend, hosting the GLIAC Tournament. The Lakers will play Davenport in the opening round Friday afternoon. The winner of the game will advance to the championship game to play the winner of CSP and NMU at noon on Sunday.

GVSU ended the regular season on an eight-game winning streak, finishing 13-3 overall and 8-0 in league play to win the GLIAC regular season crown. In their final game before the postseason, they defeated SVSU 23-1 on Sunday. The Lakers dominated from the opening draw in that game, leading 10-0 after the opening quarter, then 20-0 after three quarters. Four players recorded five or more points, led by
Ashleigh Rothe's nine.
Gracie Bancroft had seven points,
Zoe Ziegler had six, and
Ainsley Shilling recorded five. Defensively, the Lakers allowed just five shots and caused 16 turnovers, with five players caused multiple. GVSU is up to 14
th nationally in draw control percentage, winning 58.3% of their draws. They also boast the nation's fourth best scoring defense, allowing just 7.31 goals a contest, aided by the fourth best save percentage, with
Sarah Krause and
Kaylyn Cater combining to save 52.6% of the shots on goal.
The Lakers took both matchups against the Panthers this season, winning 12-3 on the road, then took a 17-6 win in Allendale. Over the two games, Zeigler has posted 10 points on seven goals and three assists. Rothe and Bancroft both tallied six points, with four other players all scoring at least two goals. In the cage, Cater and Krause combined for 15 saves and the Laker defense caused 19 turnovers, four by
Elora Ferrie. The Lakers doubled up the Panthers in draw controls, winning 30 to their 15, with
Ella Boose collecting eight. GVSU is18-0 all-time versus Davenport, with only two games being closer than five goals.
Davenport went 9-7 this season and 3-5 in league play to earn the four-seed in the tournament. The nine wins were their most victories since the 2022 season when they won 13 contests. The Panthers ended the regular season winning three of their final four games, the only loss in that stretch coming at GVSU. Two Panthers have recorded over 40 points this season, with Blakley Malpass leading the team with 51. Maddy Haynes added 41 points, with two other players scoring over 20 goals in Theadora Krueger and Gabby Basha. Krueger has caused a league-high 35 turnovers and she is fourth in the conference with 40 groundballs. In goal, both Rachel Livak and Zoe Cassell have played in 11 games, with Livak getting more time once GLIAC play began. She has a .460 save percentage and 58 saves, both leading the team. The Panthers are trying to advance their their first GLIAC Championship game since the 2022 campaign.
