GVSU Men's S&D Snag A Fourth Place Finish At The NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, IND.- 
The 2024-2025 season has come to an end after the fifth day of the '25 National Championship. The Lakers finished the championship with 12 All-Americans on the women's side, with several also earning multiple honors from different events. The men brought home 11 All-Americans, each competing in their respective events. 

The swim and dive team brought 30 athletes to compete in the National Championship and 29 competed throughout the five days of competition. 

On the women's side of the pool, the Lakers took home eighth place with a score of 198. They finished behind Simon Fraser (211). Over the course of the week, the women brought home seven trophies. 

Continuing on the women's side, Lucy Hedley touched the wall for the Lakers in the 100 free with a time of 49.68. She placed fifth and was named All-American. 

Vittoria Proietti competed in the 200 backstroke and placed ninth. She touched the wall at 1:58.40. Proietti was named an All-American. 

Sara Alvarez grabbed the wall at 2:16.87 to place 12th for the Lakers and grabbed her fourth All-American honor. 

Kiersten Harmon, Annabelle Nixon, Angelica Angilletta, Lucy Hedley placed 11th in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:23.16. Members of this event were named All-Americans. 

On the men's side of the pool and the diving board, the Lakers took home fourth place with a score of 291.5. They finished right behind McKendree who had a score of 349. Over the course of the week for the men, they brought home a National Championship in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:18.10. The Lakers also finished the final night off the Championship with a National Champion podium spot in the 400 free relay with a time of 2:52.58. 

Matt Bosch was crowned National Champion of the 100 free with a time of 42.42. Bosch broke the school record in prelims this morning with a time of 42.49. He broke his own record in the finals this evening.. Evan Scotto DiVetta placed sixth right behind Bosch with a time of 43.25 in the 100 free. They both were named All-Americans. 

Thomas Zoldowski touched the wall at 1:43.62 in the 200 back from a finish of ninth. He was named an All-American. 

Andrew Goh and Esteban Nunez Del Prado finished 10th and 12th in the 200 breaststroke. Goh touched the wall with a time of 1:56.88. Nunez Del Prado grabbed the wall at 1:57.21. Both were named All-Americans. 

Jon Kantzenbach touched the wall in the 1650 at 15:32.85 to take 14th for the Lakers. He was named an All-American.

Matthew Blommel scored a 499.0 in the 1 mtr. Dive on the final day of competition. He placed ninth and was named an All-American. 

The 400 free relay squad touched the wall at 2:52.58 to take home the National Champion. Members of this squad include, Evan Scotto DiVetta, Aaron Dies, Carsyn Christoffel, and Matt Bosch. They were all named All-Americans. 

"Winning the 400 free relay to finish the meet with a fourth place men's finsh and 8th place women's overall finish was incredible. I couldn't be more proud of both teams and my coaching staff." said Head Coach Andy Boyce after finishing fourth on the men's side of the National Championship.
