Grand Valley State finished the opening day at the NCAA DII Wrestling National Championships in ninth-place with 27.5 points. GVSU, in just its second year as a varsity sport after a 32-year hiatus, is guaranteed four NCAA DII All-American. Top-seeded
Chris Donathan (149) went 2-0 and is in the semfinals Saturday morning, while three Lakers,
Josh Kenny (174),
Wyatt Miller (197) and
Carter Blough (285) all won two matches on the back side of the bracket to earn All-American status. GVSU crowned three All-American in 2024 and upped that total to four in 2025.

Chris Donathan won his opening match 6-2 over Brennan Watkins from King College, followed by a 20-4 tech fall over #8 Ethen Doty from Upper Iowa. Donathan will wrestle #4 Nick James from Nebraska-Kearney in the semifinals.

Josh Kenny won a tough 2-1 match over Wyatt Reisz from Colorado Mines, but dropped a quarterfinal match to Matt Ortiz from McKendree, 4-2. Kenny came back and claimed an 11-1 major decision over Clinton Morrisette from King College to earn All-America status.

Brayden Mirjavadi won his opening match by a 14-3 major decision over Kyler Pickard of Belmont Abbey. Mirjavadi dropped a 9-0 decision to #2 seeded and undefeated Matt Weinberg from Kutztown. Mirjavadi dropped a 4-1 decision to Damon Ashworth from Central Missouri in the consolation round.

Wyatt Miller, a 2024 All-American, dropped his opening match to #4 Max Ramberg from Augustana (5-0), but then he did what
Wyatt Miller does, battle. Miller beat Eli Reese from Gannon by fall (1:14), then claimed a 5-1 decision over Dakoda Rodgers to earn All-American honors. Miller dropped two matches to Rodgers at the 2024 NCAA Championships.

Carter Blough went into sudden victory in all three of his matches. Blough opened with a 7-5 SV win over Tyler Haynes from McKendree, but dropped a 2-1 SV decision to Jake Swirple from Minot State. Blough came back and defeated Cale Gray by a 9-7 SV decision to earn All-American honors.
