The #6 ranked Grand Valley State wrestling team tied Ashland for second place at the NCAA DII Super Region III Tournament with 126.5 points. Glenville State won the tourney with 129.0 points. The Lakers advanced five wrestlers to the NCAA DII National Championships that will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana March 14-15. 
 
#1-ranked Chris Donathan (149) and #3 ranked Carter Blough (285) both captured NCAA Super Region III titles, while defending National Champion and #5 ranked Josh Kenny (174) and #5 Brayden Mirjavadi (184) both finished second. Returning All-American Wyatt Miller captured two wins in the consolation bracket to finish third and punch his ticket back to the NCAA National Championships.
 
Sophomore Jak Keller and redshirt freshman CJ Poole finished fourth, Maclain Morency (165) was fifth and Orion Wilson (125) was sixth. Redshirt freshman Maddox Simcoe (157) finished with a 1-2 mark.
 
"I am proud of how our 10 wrestlers competed today," said GVSU second-year head coach Joey Simcoe. "We are a young team with no seniors and when you crown two champions, have two more in the finals and three in the third-place match you have a gritty bunch of kids. For our program to be in its second year as varsity sport after a 32-year hiatus and finish second at NCAA Super Regional you have a special program," added Simcoe.
