Softball Set to Open 2025 Season Tuesday in Brighton

ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State softball team is set to open the 2025 season Tuesday (Feb. 11) when they face Findlay in a doubleheader. First pitch for game one is set for 10:15 AM at Legacy Center Sports Complex Dome in Brighton, Michigan.

GVSU was selected to finish second in the GLIAC Preseason Coaches' Poll announced by the conference last week. The Lakers went 37-18 last season and won the GLIAC regular season championship with a 16-8 conference mark.

Head coach Dana Callihan will begin her 11th season at the helm of the GVSU program. Callihan has posted a 389-114 overall record and has led GVSU to seven consecutive GLIAC regular season championships. The Lakers have made the NCAA Tournament in every season under Callihan making four trips to the College World Series.

Infielder Morgan Spicer returns for her senior season after earning first team All-GLIAC honors last season and will captain the GVSU infield. Spicer appeared and started in all 60 games for GVSU in the 2023 season posting a .360 batting average with 32 runs scored, 25 runs batted in, and 17 doubles.

GVSU returns junior outfielder Eliana Eiland who will lead a group of outfielders that includes sophomores Jasmine Mauk and Faith Edwards who split time in right field last season, and freshman Madelynn Pope. Eiland was second on the team last season with 12 stolen bases and did not commit one fielding error playing 49 games in centerfield.

Alongside Spicer in the infield, juniors MaryJane Goodman and Carsyn Segorski return for GVSU. Goodman appeared in 52 games making 51 starts at second base last season and was second on the team with 25 runs batted in and two triples. Segorski will start at third base this season after appearing in 28 games in 2024. Junior Kylie Sinal and sophomore transfer Elizabeth Wesoloski will provide impacts and depth both offensively and defensively for GVSU behind the plate.

Despite losing All-GLIAC pitchers Ashley Platek and Genesis Eggart, GVSU returns junior Nevaeh Ingram and sophomore Kylie Swierkos who will look to have big seasons in the circle. Ingram posted a perfect 7-0 record with a 1.82 ERA last season with five complete games. Swierkos went 5-3 in the circle with a 2.09 ERA and seven complete games in her freshman campaign.
