Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. – The Grand Valley State women's basketball team finished off their 2025 schedule, traveling to play Aquinas. The Lakers led wire-to-wire, claiming a 93-21 victory. They will enter 2026 a perfect 10-0.
The Lakers raced out to a 29-0 lead, scoring their first 12 points in the paint. After
Paige VanStee buried a triple, GVSU tallied 14 more points before Aquinas finally got on the board to end the period, making it 29-2 after 10 minutes of play.
Tayla Dillard began the second quarter with a three-pointer, starting an 8-0 run, pushing the lead to 37-2. The two teams traded baskets until it was 40-6, but the Lakers ended the half on a 6-0 run to lead by 40 at the break.
Across the first six minutes of the third quarter, the two teams went back and forth, as GVSU led 61-18. VanStee hit two free that started an 8-0 run to finish off the third quarter, leading 69-18 with one period to play.
A three-pointer from
Emersen Berndt got things started in the fourth quarter, beginning an 8-0 run that pushed the lead to 77-18. After the Saints scored three of the next five points, the Lakers got threes from Dillard,
Ava Mallar, and two more from Berndt to finish the game with the final 14 points of the game.
Five players reached double-figures, led by
Avery Lay and
Emersen Berndt, both with 11.
MacKenzie Bisballe,
Tayla Dillard, and
Reese Gaytan all tallied 10 points.
Kelly Kray had a team-high six boards, while
Sydney Cherney had five assists. The Lakers won the rebounding battle 58-39 and forced 30 Saints turnovers.
