ALLENDALE, MICH. – The Grand Valley State women's basketball team put forth another dominant effort Saturday afternoon in their win over Quincy. The Lakers raced out to a 14-0 lead, propelling them to a 91-46 victory. They are now 9-0 this season, with all those wins coming by double-digits.
Nicole Kamin and
MacKenzie Bisballe started out the Laker run with consecutive layups, then eight Laker free throws around a
Lexi Plitzuweit layup, had GVSU up by 14 early. After a Quincy basket,
Avery Zeinstra hit a free throw, followed by an
Avery Lay three, making it 18-2. Bisballe would connect from deep later in the period, and
Kelly Kray finished the quarter off with a layup, as GVSU held a 27-6 lead after the opening 10 minutes.
The Lakers increased their lead up to 31 points, as
Molly Anderson capped off a 10-0 GVSU run with a triple, making it 41-10. Quincy would end the half on an 8-2 run, cutting their deficit to 43-18 at the break.
After the two teams traded baskets over the first two minutes of the second half, a Plitzuweit layup started a Laker 8-0 scoring run, putting them up 55-23. Lay and VanStee would both drill three-pointers, and VanStee added an and-1 layup and free throw, part of a quarter closing 15-6 run, that saw GVSU extend their lead up to 70-34.
The two defenses locked up to begin the fourth quarter, allowing a combined four points over the first five minutes of the period. The Laker offense found its footing once again, with
Tayla Dillard hitting a three to begin a 9-0 run.
Sydney Cherney,
Emersen Berndt, and Dillard all made threes in the final minutes, to put the finishing touches on the Laker win.
Paige VanStee led the way with her first double-double of the season, posting 18 points and 12 rebounds.
MacKenzie Bisballe also had 18 points, adding three blocks and three steals.
Avery Zeinstra scored 11 points, while
Avery Lay had six points and eight rebounds.
Molly Anderson and
Nicole Kamin each had five assists.

The Lakers finish off 2025 with two road games. They travel to Ashland on Friday, then had to Aquinas on Sunday for the final game before the holiday break.
