ALLENDALE, MICH. – After beginning conference play last week, the Grand Valley State women's basketball team returns to nonconference play Saturday, hosting Quincy. This will be the final home game before the holiday break for GVSU.

GLIAC play began last weekend for GVSU, as they hosted LSSU and SVSU. The Lakers took control early in both games, getting out to a 19-0 run on Thursday and a 14-0 run on Saturday. From there, they never looked back, cruising to a 50-point and a 47-point win.
Paige VanStee averaged 15 points and five steals and
MacKenzie Bisballe had 14.5 points a game. Both
Jordyn Bonnema and
Molly Anderson each scored in double-figures in one of the games. Following the two wins, the Lakers are 8-0 overall and 2-0 in league play, ranked number one in the country.
Last season, the Lakers and Hawks met twice, once in the regular season in Quincy, then the second time in the Midwest Regional quarterfinal round in Allendale. Both times, GVSU came away victorious, winning 73-58 and 108-72.
Nicole Kamin averaged 13.5 points, four rebounds, and 2.5 steals, while Bisballe had 10 points per game. VanStee tallied 9.5 points and 2.5 steals across the two games.
After starting the season 3-1, the Hawks have dropped three of their last four games, now sitting at 4-4. They are 1-2 in GLVC play, beating Missouri S&T in between losses to Upper Iowa and Drury. Quincy is one of the best shooting teams in the country, hitting 47.6% of their shots, ranking sixth nationally, and 37.9% from distance, which ranks eighth nationally. They are led by junior Katey Flynn, who is scoring 19.1 points, reaching double-figures in seven of their eight games. Head coach Ali Schwagmeyer-Belger is in her first year at the helm of the Hawks, joining Quincy from John Wood Community College.
