GVSU Falls In Men's And Women's Swimming & Diving At Tampa

ALLENDALE, Mich. — The Lakers dropped duals in men's & women's swimming & diving at nationally-ranked Tampa Friday. The men fell 134-128, while the women lost 174-88. 

On the women's side, the 200 medley relay team placed fourth with a time of 1:45.64. The relay consisted of Angelica Angilletta, Ana Villamil, Avery Rottier, and Samara Zeinert.

Linda Frick touched the wall at 10:15.35 to take first place in the 1000 freestyle. Lucy Hedley also earned first place in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:48.38.

Alice Persson placed fourth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 57.92. Elliott McAlpine and Liv Geiger took third and fourth, respectively, in the 100 breaststroke with times of 1:04.19 and 1:04.49.

Gaia Tomaselli finished fourth in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:12.35. Avery Rottier placed fourth in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.06. Lucy Hedley claimed first place for the Lakers in the 100 freestyle, touching the wall at 49.78.

Persson added another fourth-place finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:04.57. Izzy DeLay took first in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:25.45.

Hedley secured her second individual win of the day in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:55.43, while Katie O'Connell finished second at 4:59.67. Ana Villamil placed fourth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 58.45. O'Connell rounded out the individual events with a fifth-place finish in the 200 IM, posting a time of 2:07.44.

The women's 200 freestyle relay team placed second with a time of 1:36.18. Team members included Avery Rottier, Ana Villamil, Samara Zeinert, and Lucy Hedley.

On the men's side, the 200 medley relay team took first place with a time of 1:28.95. The relay included Mahmoud Abdelkarim, Jan Matejczuk, Ammar Eltaranisy, and Evan Scotto DiVetta.

Matti Gaebler and Thomas Ferguson finished first and second, respectively, with times of 1:38.00 and 1:38.05. Abdelkarim earned a second-place finish in the 100 backstroke with a time of 49.34. Matejczuk claimed first place in the 100 breaststroke, touching the wall at 55.98.

Gaebler and Eltaranisy placed third and fourth in the 200 butterfly with times of 1:51.02 and 1:51.76. Ali Usama and Scotto DiVetta took first and second in the 50 freestyle with times of 20.57 and 20.60.

Scotto DiVetta, Abdelkarim, and Carsyn Christoffel swept the top three spots in the 100 freestyle with times of 44.38, 45.58, and 45.61, respectively.

Anton Rauch placed third in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:49.27, followed by Mortiez Hesse in fourth at 1:51.62. Matejczuk added a third-place finish in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:04.07.

Raul Briceno took third in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:29.29, while Mason Crews finished fourth at 4:33.00.

Usama earned a second-place finish in the 100 butterfly with a time of 49.19. Gaebler placed fourth and Matejczuk took fifth in the 200 IM with times of 1:51.05 and 1:51.80.

The men's 200 freestyle relay team closed the meet with a first-place finish, posting a time of 1:20.48. The relay team consisted of Abdelkarim, Usama, Ferguson, and Scotto DiVetta.
