ALLENDALE, MICH. – After consecutive weeks on the road, the GVSU women's volleyball team returns home this weekend for two key GLIAC matchups. The Lakers will take on Davenport and Ferris State in rematches from late September.

Coming off a weekend in the Upper Peninsula where the dropped five-set matches to Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech, the Lakers look to regroup at home, where they are 6-2 this year. GVSU is 13-7 overall and 7-3 in the league, entering this weekend in third place in the conference, tied with Davenport and Northern Michigan.
 
The Lakers took the first matchups against both Ferris State and Davenport, both on the road. They defeated the Bulldogs in five sets, then took down DU in four sets the following day. Following the wins, 
Meghan O'Sullivan and 
Brianna Stawski earned GLIAC Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors. Over the two games, O'Sullivan tallied 25 kills, 44 assists, and 20 digs, hitting at a .300 clip, while Stawski recorded 16 total blocks, three solo and 13 block assists, while contributing 21 kills.
 
Davenport is tied with GVSU at 7-3 in the GLIAC, sitting one spot back of them in the standings due to the Lakers' head-to-head win. At 11-10 overall, the Panthers have already surpassed their win total from last season, both overall and in league play. Three Panthers have over 160 kills, led by Abby Alan's 223, with setter Madison Berry directing the offense with 755 assists. Libero Hayley Carr has 338 digs, helping the Panthers rank second in the league with 17.58 digs per set.
 
Since their loss to the Lakers, Ferris State has rattled off 11 consecutive wins, improving to 18-4 overall and a GLIAC-leading 9-1 in conference play. They are ranked 15
th in the AVCA poll, the highest among all Midwest Region teams. The Bulldogs pace the GLIAC in opponent hitting percentage (.148), digs per set (18.15), and kills per set (13.95). On the individual side, outside hitter Gabby Piazza leads the league with 286 kills, 3.81 per set, ranking second in the conference with 4.25 points per set. Setter Hayley Wegener is third with 10.11 assists per set and reigning GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week Hope Davies tallies 3.38 digs per set.
