The Lakers are coming off a 1-2 showing at the Midwest Region Crossover Tournament. They fell to Cedarville and Lewis on the first day, then rebounded to defeat Hillsdale on Saturday.
Meghan O'Sullivan was named to the All-Tournament team, posting 45 kills, hitting .337, adding 66 assists, 32 digs, and 10 service aces. Following a tough 1-9 start to the season, Northern Michigan has found its groove, proceeding to go 7-2 since late September to climb to 8-11 overall and 5-2 in GLIAC play. They also went 1-2 at the Crossover, getting swept by Findlay and Quincy, before defeating Ashland. The Wildcats are fourth in the conference in digs, led by libero Liesl Haugen, who is second in the league, recording 4.61 digs per set. On the offensive side, McKenzie Gruner has a team-high 191 kills, with two others totaling over 130. They swept NMU during the regular season, then defeated them in five sets in the GLIAC Tournament semifinals.
It has been an up-and-down start to the season for Michigan Tech. They began with a 3-6 stretch, then won four straight, but followed that up with a current five-game losing streak. MTU has two players tied for the team lead in kills, with Jacqueline Yancy and Rachel Zurek both posting 175. Setting duties have been split between Tess Hayes and Madelynn Kreider, who each have over 230 assists. At the net, Paige Wagner and Tricia Kennedy have helped the Huskies record over 1.9 blocks per set, as each have over 50 this season. In the lone meeting last season, GVSU took down the Huskies in four sets.
