ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State men's basketball is set to begin the second half of their GLIAC schedule on the road this weekend when they travel to face Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech. The Lakers will take on Northern Michigan on Thursday at 7:30 PM and Michigan Tech Saturday afternoon at 2:00 PM.

GVSU enters the second half of the GLIAC schedule with a 6-4 mark and are heading to the Upper Peninsula on a four-game winning streak. The Lakers are currently tied for fourth place in the standings and are just two games back from first place with three teams currently tied at the top of the standings with two losses.
GVSU is coming off a 3-0 week with a road win at Roosevelt and a pair of home wins against Parkside and Purdue Northwest.
Trevor Smith Jr. led the Lakers in scoring against Parkside and Purdue Northwest.
Kaden Brown scored 30 points for the second time this season at Roosevelt knocking down six three-pointers.
William Dunn notched his second double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds at Roosevelt.
Trevor Smith Jr. was named the GLIAC defensive player of the week after setting multiple career highs. Smith Jr. scored a career high 18 points and blocked two shots against Purdue Northwest. He swiped a career high four steals against Parkside and dished out a career high eight assists at Roosevelt.
Northern Michigan is 12-6 on the season and 6-4 in the GLIAC. The Wildcats are tied with GVSU in the standings in fourth place. NMU defeated GVSU in the first matchup this season 78-70 in Allendale. Since beating the Lakers in Allendale, Northern Michigan has lost four out of their last six games including both games last weekend at Ferris State and Lake Superior State.
The Wildcats are led by Dylan Kuehl who is averaging 15.3 points and 6.4 rebounds shooting 51% from the field and 42% from three-point range. Julien Smith has notched 11.2 points and 3.3 rebounds shooting 34% from the field and leads the Wildcats with 30 made three-pointers. Sam Privet has added 10.4 points and 5.8 rebounds while leading the Wildcats shooting 60% from the field.
Michigan Tech is tied for first place in the GLIAC standings with an 8-2 mark. The Huskies defeated GVSU 59-58 to begin the 2025 calendar year in Allendale in the first matchup this season. Michigan Tech has won five out of their last six games including a three-point road win against Ferris State last weekend.
Marcus Tomashek leads the GLIAC and is third in the country scoring 25.2 points a game. Tomashek was named the GLIAC offensive player of the week after scoring a career high 45 points last game against Ferris State knocking down nine shots from three-point range. In 17 games played, Tomashek has two 40-point games and five 30-point games this season. Tomashek was held to a season low four points against GVSU back in early January shooting 2-11 from the field.
