DETROIT – The No. 9 Grand Valley State softball team is back in action in GLIAC play on the road against Wayne State Wednesday (Apr. 10) afternoon. The Lakers will face the Warriors in a doubleheader with first pitch for game one set for 3:30 PM in Detroit.
GVSU is coming off of their first four home games of the season last weekend. The Lakers swept Davenport 10-1 and 2-1 before falling to Saginaw Valley State 3-1 and 4-0. GVSU is now 22-9 on the season and 5-3 in the GLIAC. GVSU is outscoring their opponents 160-60 on the season and are hitting .297 as a team.
Hannah Hollister leads the Lakers with a .371 batting average, 36 hits, 32 runs scored, and 25 stolen bases.
Kelsey Komorous leads the Lakers with 33 runs batted in and has hit .354 on the season.
Morgan Spicer notched seven hits over the weekend and is now hitting .330 on the season with 32 hits, 20 runs scored, 17 RBI, and a team leading four triples.
The GVSU pitching staff has posted a GLIAC leading 1.66 ERA in the circle this season.
Kylie Swierkos leads the GLIAC with a 1.17 ERA, tossing six complete games with 26 strikeouts.
Nevaeh Ingram ranks second in the GLIAC with a 1.39 ERA. Ingram has posted a 5-0 record in the circle, tossing five complete games with 24 strikeouts.
Genesis Eggart is third in the GLIAC with a 1.40 ERA, posting an 8-2 record with a team leading nine complete games thrown. Eggart leads the pitching staff with 59 strikeouts in 65 innings pitched.
Ashley Platek has notched a 2.14 ERA and has thrown five complete games striking out 30 batters.
Wayne State enters Wednesday's doubleheader with a 12-17 overall record and 4-4 GLIAC mark. The Warriors travel to Big Rapids for a doubleheader at Ferris State on Tuesday (Apr. 9) before hosting the Lakers on Wednesday. Wayne State is hitting .297 as a team and have posted a 4.14 team ERA.
The Warriors are led by Kiley Lewandowski who is hitting .439 this season. Rylie Josephson has notched a .427 batting with a team leading 38 hits, 17 runs scored, and seven doubles. Abby Favela is batting 338 on the season with 22 hits, four doubles, and nine runs batted in. Shelby Miller has notched a .333 average starting in all 29 games for the Warriors with 28 hits and 10 runs batted it.
Sydney Long and Alexis Bonk have both appeared in 15 games making 14 starts in the circle this year for Wayne State. Long has tossed 11 complete games, while Bonk has thrown eight. Bonk leads the team with 61 strikeouts in 74.2 innings pitched. Long has thrown 85.1 innings striking out 57 batters on the season.
