The Swim and Dive Team Broke Multiple School and Pool Records over the Weekend

ALLENDALE, Mich.- The men's and women's swim and dive teams competed in the Calvin Winter Invite from Thursday to Saturday last weekend, where multiple school and pool records were broken at the Venema Aquatic Center each day. 

The Lakers had an impressive weekend with 10 pool or school records broken.

On the first day, the 400 medley relay team broke the school record that was set in 2016, previously held by Falconer, Gallagher, Martinez, and Van Noort. The new record, 3:42.51, was set by Sara Alvarez, Lucy Hedley, Vittoria Proietti, and Alysa Wager, shaving off 2 seconds from the previous time.

Matt Bosch, Aaron Dies, Esteban Nuñez Del Prado, Evan Scotto DiVetta hold the pool record in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:18.81 beating the old record by over one second. 

On day 2, Katie O'Connell had an impressive day as she broke the school and pool record at the Venema Aquatic Center in the 400 IM with a time of 4:18.16 beating her old time by 4 seconds. 

Matt Bosch broke the pool record for the 200 freestyle by one second, touching the wall at 1:34.90 to set the new record.

On the third day, Matt Bosch broke his own pool record twice in the 100 freestyle. He started off the day in prelims breaking the record by 0.6 of a second with a time of 43.13. Later on Saturday, he broke his own pool record again with a time 43.01, shaving off 0.12 seconds. 

Vittoria Proietti set a new school record in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:58.73, shaving off less than a second from the previous record.

Sara Alvarez holds the new school and pool record for the Lakers in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:14.82. Touching the wall two seconds earlier for the pool record and a tenth of a second for the school record. 

The 200 medley relay team set both a new school and pool record on Saturday night with a time of 1:41.74. The team members were Sara Alvarez, Lucy Hedley, Vittoria Proietti, and Alysa Wager.

The last pool record that was broken on Saturday night by Matt Bosch, Carysn Christoffel, Esteban Nuñez Del Prado, and Evan Scotto DiVetta.The 400 medley relay team touched the wall at a time of 2:54.77 and beat the old record by 15 seconds. 

The swim and dive will compete against Indiana River State College in Florida on December 20th, 2024. More information to follow!
